Sparkyireland,
As to your question about waking up/confusion/racing thoughts ~I have really bad, really vivid dreams, and lots of nightmares which started when I began taking PPI medication. It's awful.

Sometimes I have this when I wake up especially on days that the alarm jolts me awake. I take decongestants before I go to bed so that might be the reason for me.

Blues, I would like to know what medication it was you were on that your doctor said caused the heavy heart pounding and twitching. Because ive been on an assortment of PPI pills and i soon started to get heavy heart palpitations AND im getting muscle twitching/spasms all over the place, mostly in the abdomen area.

I have stopped use of all PPI/acid reflux pills for 3 months but im still twitching all over the place. its very frustrating.

I would like more info from what your doc exactly said about the pounding and twitching and how its related to the med u were on and what med you were on.

Thanks!

There has been a great response on this thread, I must say that the fact that there are so many here with acid reflux and palpitations just makes it more likely that they are linked.

I am quite sure that most Dr

Odd... I remeraber a couple weeks ago I was lying down ready to go to bed when I began having extreme heart palpitations and all of a sudden my muscles began to twitch. The twitching was in every muscle group in my body. I had them for 3 days, but the heart pounding ended the next morning. My doc said it was from the medication, which I stopped.

I am not sure if GERD or acid reflex causes the twitches or palpitations, all I know is that it is a side effect of the one drug I was taking.

i have all the symptoms you mentioned. I am going nuts trying to figure out whats going on. But i get nasal inflammation and congestion, either the right or left nostril will get completely or almost completely blocked, especially when I lay down. I have no idea if this is a result of acid reflux or not. I use to get heart palps but they have gone away for the most part thank God. I now have incredible twitching/spasms and a bunch of other stuff.
I never burp and bring up acid or taste the sour acid, so i dont even know if i have acid reflux or not, but i was diagnosed with it last year.
Im at the point where i dont know if the twitching and sinus/nose mucus and inflammation problems are caused by acid reflux or side effects by PPI/acid reflux meRAB, OR if i got sum kind of virus.

i totally understand what you are going through and I know exactly how you feel. I also get extreme bouts of lightheadedness where i feel almost like im going to pass out, i was thinking that might be from acid reflux "fumes" or sumthing, i dunno.

Its all just theories.

Glad you shared that. So can I ask your thoughts on something? I had leg surgery one week ago to have some bad veins taken out of my leg. I was on 800 mg of IBUPROFEN every 8 hours with Tylenol inbetween for 7 days straight. I just stopped the pain meRAB yesterday morning. My leg is healing really nicely and I went without any meRAB today. So do you think that the twitching started today because I am off the meRAB and they are clearing out of the body? And maybe they had built up alot just now and I am feeling a so called delayed reaction effect? I was fine until today. ugh! The last time I had this I had been taking Sudefed for my allergies too many days in a row and I was twitching day and night until it got out of my system. My neurologist even told me that's what was causing it. MeRAB can do that. But I wasn't sure about IBUPROFEN AND TYLENOL. Any thoughts? It is freaking me out! Because I hadn't had heart palpatations for months eithor and these both came on after one week of pain meRAB. Now it's giving me MAJOR anxiety.

all my life I have constant sound in my ears/head. I learned to live with it without explanation from any one. Recently the beat changed, it would skip he beat and be louder. At the same time I developed heart palpatation which cause to wake me at night I realized on my own that I was hearing my own heart. Doctor could not explain the reason for my irregular heart beat. About a year ago I started to be treated for acid reflex, would that explain my irregular heartbeat?

On my second consecutive day of twitching I decided to call my doctor to ask her what she thought could be causing my muscle twitching. Before I was able to talk to my doc, the receptionist told me to take Ibuprofen. So I am not sure that ibuprofen would cause twitching, especially when it is proscribed to reduce them. I would give your doc a call.

I totally agree that the palpitations and acid reflux are related because of the "vagus nerve'. My palps started mid Feb. and went on for months and then in May the reflux hit "hard". I was stuffed up and had mucus galore but never really had the chest pain it can cause. Mine was silent and went right for the throat. Burning mouth and throat. Nexium was started and as I started healing the palpitations went away. It wasn't till a couple of days ago, that they started again every now and then. These are not serious. I wore a moniter for a month and the palpitations you can live with because they don't hurt you. That took my anxiety away.
But like someone said on this thread...You have to relax. Easily said right? I think some things hang around for awhile and then they disapear as fast as they apeared.
For the person that posted she got rid of her "Thraot pain" after she relaxed and did Yoga....how long did you have your problems before they went away?
