Heavy battery drain on 93 Ford Ranger?

manual trans. 4 cylinder. Truck stopped running while traveling on highway. Lights would not turn on when turned key in ignition. We replaced first the battery then alternator on the truck. Battery is still draining rapidly from a full charge, we've tested the battery and all the cells are working. The alternator is refurbished but was tested to be good prior to purchase. It did squeak when we first installed it though. What else would cause the battery to drain like this? The drain is visible on the gauge when the car is on and idling.

Sounds like you need to check for a short somewhere in your wiring, look for a bare wire touching metal.

Take another look at the alternator, voltage regulator and install.
