i have an extremely heavy backpack. its the kind that you use on both shoulders. anyway, i've already taken out everything i can but its still really heavy. does the backpack effect the weight? for example, if i got a messenger or a tote, would that be better? it also really hurts both of my shoulders and i play violin so i dont want to lose that ability. please help and give tips on the best type of backpack and what not.

If you got a messenger or a tote, it would feel even more heavier. It would put ALL the weight on one shoulder, and if it really is that heavy you will have so much trouble walking and your shoulder with feel really in pain. Totes are for people who don't have too much to carry. If you want you can wheel everything around with a wheeling backpack. I would prefer a normal backpack over a messenger or a tote, because it balances the weight, instead of putting all the pressure to one side of you. If you did put all the weight to one side, you will find yourself walking lopsidedly.

If you've taken everything out of your backpack and it's still heavy alone, you should try using a different brand. Try them on at the store before you buy them.

You should also try getting rid of what isn't absolutely necessary in your backpack and try combining things in the same folders or notebooks. If your teachers allow that.

it hurts your back. Will not make you fat

i advise having those wheely backpacks, that will get rid of the stress on your back

the backpack might effect the weight, but really i believe it might be the straps of the backpack. i used to have a backpack with straps that were very thin and it dug into my shoulders when my backpack was heavy. i suggest getting a backpack with good support on the straps and lots of pockets (using many pockets/compartments helps distribute the weight of all of your books and such). the backpack i have now is great and its a Jansport "airlift" (it has super comfortable shoulder straps and it's still a good size backpack).

if you find that isn't comfortable either, i suggest a rolling backpack.
(by the way, i don't think a messenger bag or tote will be better because it puts more stress on one side of ur body and i don't think it has enough room)
