Heathcliff/Riff Raff question

Does anyone know the true reason why they never met? I always found it odd that they both lived in the same city but never once crossed paths.

Being a fan of the show you're refering to,I think they had different serieson the show. it's like saying that rocky and bullwinkle never saw dudley-do-right.

Heathcliff and Riff-Raff never appeared together because they're both Alpha male types. Both characters were self-proclaimed kings of the neighborhood, so they never would've clicked together. If they ever shared the same space, there'd be an immediate power struggle to determine who was in charge.

Because it was Heathcliff's show, simple enough. Riff Raff and Heathcliff wouldn't have made it together because both of them would've wanted to be in charge.

Simply put, Heathcliff and Riff-Raff were too similar characters to ever share the screen. There couldn't be 2 self-proclaimed "Kings of the neighborhood".

The only time that the 2 have ever been seen together was in the shows' closing title sequence. Heathcliff is wearing Riff-Raff's Big Apple cap and Riff-Raff takes it away from him.

Actually the real reason had to do with the McNaught Company (who owned Heathcliff at the time) not wanting any "outside" characters appearing in the Heathcliff portion of the series (they also demanded this with the other Heathcliff shows Heathcliff & Dingbat and Heathcliff & Marmaduke).
It was explained by one of the show's writers some years ago, but DiC's initial plans WERE to have Riff Raff be a supporting character/nemesis for Heathcliff, but McNaught was totally against the idea. DiC apparently had to do a lot of negotiating just to have Mungo, Hector, and Wordswoth be supporting players in the Heathcliff segment.

I've always wondered why Riff Raff nevered appeared on screen with Heathcliff too thanks for explaining why they never appeared together.

Boy that's kinda petty considering that all the characters were gonna be represented on the same show anyway. I can understand McNaught wanting to protect their copyrights but still that was a major fumble on their part.

And apparently, they lost that battle by the time of season 2. In Heacthcliff and the Cadillac Cats' second season, Hector, Wordsworth and Mungo were completely absent from the Heacthcliff segments and remained exclusive to the Cadillac Cats segments. In their place, the writers took 3 alley cat 'extras' from season 1 and named them Lefty, Knuckles and Raoul; these 3 had essentially the same roles that Wordsworth, Mungo and Hector had in the Heathcliff shorts in the first season.

Well, they weren't completely absent in season 2. There were a few season 2 Heathcliff episodes that Hector, Wordsworth, and Mungo appeared in like "Raiders of the Lost Cat", or "Used Pets", but you do have a point, their appearences in Heathcliff in season 2 were a lot less frequent.

Another interesting note is throughout season 1, Inspector Gadget made a few cameos (usually appearing on Heathcliff's television), but in season 2, his cameos were more frequent in the Catillac Cats segment.

Judging from the end credits, both Heathcliff and Riff-Raff have somewhat of an unspoken respect for each other, and neither could get away with bullying the other since both are so adept at fighting.

Same reason Garfield almost never shared a crossover sketch with the US Acres crowd...aside from the fact that they were just a painful cartoon to sit thru, much like the basing comic...

Ah...poor Garfield...had to share his cartoon with those pitiful losers cause his creator was desperate to get all his characters on one show.

It's times like these I wish Binky the Clown would've tortured Orson, Wade, and the others...

I get that vibe everytime I watch the end credits too. :)

It's like they're not friends, yet they have great respect for each other. Heathcliff runs one part of Westfinster while Riff Raff runs another part.

I know this is off-topic, but I actually liked "U.S. Acres." Granted, they're not Garfield, and they sang way too much, but I think U.S. Acres is still better than some other cartoon crap shows.

I think Garfield's biggest involvement in a U.S. Acres segment was the episode "Mystery Guest" where Garfield was the mystery guest that callers had to try and get in order to win some kind of prize. Nobody got the answer (not even Jon Arbuckle).

I'm not asking it be better than lots of other crap that's currently on- I'm just saying it couldn't hold a candle to Garfield to save its life...and being that it was paired with Garfield, brought it down a tad. Every time I watch the Garfield & Friends cartoon on DVD, I have to skip past the US Acres cartoons; I just CAN'T sit thru them.

I love US acres. Wade being scare of everything, roy playing mean jokes that would normaly backfired on him, orsolin would get too invole whit a book hes reading. Good times.
