Heath Ledger's Joker.

Watching Heath Ledger's remarkable performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight, I was nagged by the feeling that I'd seen him before, that he'd based it on someone, perhaps another actor or character, but I can't bring anyone to mind. The lip licking and hair straightening definitely remind me of someone.
Am I imagining things?

not everyone has to share your opinion - I was not "trying to stir it up"

If that's referred to me I'll have you know I'm not a troll - I did like Ledger's performace - gave me a good chuckle - esp the bit where he was in the hospital but oscar worthy? I personally dont think so. TBH, the lick lipping got on my nerves quite a lot.
So sorry for having an opinion thats not yours pgfmedia and I'm certainly not a troll darthdribble. Last time I looked these forums were for discussing and voicing opinions - thats mine on Ledger's joker. Not oscar worthy. Sorry.

He deserves to be nominated, but I won't be crying if he doesn't get it.

Personally, I absolutely LOVED Ledger's portrayal of The Joker. It's the first time in nearly 20 years where I've actually been unnerved by a movie "villain", since Joe Pesci's 'Tommy DeVito' in Goodfellas.

Ledger's role was very well written, very well researched and extremely well acted and worthy of an Oscar nomination, imo. I don't think that those who don't think it is should be mocked or 'shouted down' on here, though.

Unbelievable that loaRAB of people in America have the blu-rays already!!! Pictures and videos posted and everything. There are clips of a few deleted scenes in one of the featurettes including the joker riding away in a bus watching the rest of the hospital explode plus some amazing never before seen stills. Video quality looks to be amazing too.

I watched it a few months ago and can hardly remember his performance but I can remember Aaron Eckhart's, if anyone deserves a Oscar from this film it's him.

shame they have not included any actors extras on the 2-disc dvd edition I was hoping they may have interviewed him on the characters creation process whilst they made the film.

Sad loss, fantastic performance

I wasn't refering to you at all. I am more than capable of disagreeing with someone, I just know the difference between trolling and having different opinions. If you feel that I was accusing you of trolling then I'm afraid that thought comes from somewhere other than me!

TBH I think he should get best supporting actor as he wasn't in the film enough to get the best actor award. His performance as the joker was the only thing that kept me interested in the film, I think it is vastly overrated and was quite boring in parts.

sorry to be controversial but he doesnt.
The performance is brilliant but no way does he deserve an oscar. Performances such as Jodie Fosters in "The Accused" and Nicolas Cage as an alcoholic hellbent on killing himself drinking himself to oblivion in "Leaving Las Vegas" deserved an oscar.
Heath Ledger for being a loon in makeup? Sorry no. As brill as he was in the film, it's not deserved. The only reason he will get one is because he died before his time. Which is no reason to give someone an oscar in my opinion but hey, what do I know. I dont work for the academy...;)

Batman doesn't kill, that's been part of the batman mythos for a very long time (I believe he killed in the first series of the comic book but not since then)

I'd have to disagree with the above post. The Joker in TDK was the first villain for a long time that genuinely unnerved me...never before have I genuinely thought that the bad guy was truly evil. Whether it was Ledgers performance or the writing I don't know, but the character of the Joker (regardless of the actor who played him) was magnificent. Ledger adRAB to the performance because I don't see Ledger in makeup, I see the Joker. (Unlike Jack Nicholson in the original Batman, where I just saw Nicholson in makeup)...

I've always thought people who thought it was too long didn't realise that the arc of the film centred around Harvey Dent and the film was effectively his story. From what other people have said I get the impression that the last act with Two-Face was the bit that people thought made the film too long. I went in with that in mind and didn't think the film was too long at all.

well said. Upon my first viewing of The Dark Knight I didn't know it was Heath Ledger (I must have been hiding in a hole or something). I came out saying "that guy was f***ing amazing." -- he was almost certainly Oscar deserving for that performance, nothing to do with his death.

Totally disagree Heath Ledger was truly oscar worthy of his Joker role, regardless of if he is is a loon in makeup the acting was second to none and its nothing to do with his death.

I think with some people they think he DOESNT deserve an oscar because he died, as they think he will get one by default and in thinking that it clouRAB the actual talent which really isnt the case here, he was amazing, dead or alive.

So many times actors get oscars for playing "victims" like the ones you mentioned, it just becomes too predictable.
