Heath Ledger - The Joker - Best Performance in a Batman Movie?

I feel that way about Batman in Batman Returns. He gets no development and not nearly enough screen time compared to Pfeffier, DeVito and Walken.

It wasn't so glaringly obvious in The Dark Knight because they spent the enterity of Batman Begins on Bruce/Batman's origin, which the original movie franchise never did - even in the first Burton movie Bruce's story is barely touched upon apart from a few hints and a brief flashback. So I don't mind if Nolan wanted to focus on other characters in TDK, since he already did more than anyone else has done for Batman in film in BB.

going a bit OT but I think The Dark Kniht was a great film but I found the ending to be stupid, that stupid phone idea thing never worked for me and that spoiled the ending of the film

I would have to disagree. I thought the film was very poor after the excellent Batman Begins, poor almost non existant story line with a pretty bad portrayal of the Joker by Heath. If he had not died I doubt it would have receive the same level of appreciation that it got.

No, not at all. His performance was good, but nowhere near as amazing as people made it out to be. Just like the film itself.

Are you joking? It's possibly the best super-hero movie of all time. It's every bit as good as Batman Begins.

I thought Ledger was excellent.

i feel DK was slightly better than BB

batman begins 1st hour was truly amazing and had me so excitied with the whole vigilante roots history,i just felt slightly let down with the climax as i dont think neelsons character was that great, but still awesome film

DK was just very very good from start to finish and unlike LOTR or superman returns i didnt feel the ending was prolonged too long as the 2 face stuff was amazing and well done to nolan and co for not holding his character off for a 3rd film

i agree to a great extent.

Batman Begins is better as it doesnt seem drawn out. Also Bale is much better in Batman Begins as he doesnt ham the voice up as much.

100% convinced that they recut (or uncut even)dark knight to fit in as much heath ledger as possible to play on the movie publics/oscar heart strings/purse strings.

its like them doing a 4hr cut of 'stand by me' because River Phoenix died.

Dark Knight would have benefitted as a film greatly from about 45mins to an hour of cut.

Personally if i was heath ledgers family i would posthumously turn down the oscar on his behalf, it seems almost sympathy verging on fawningly condascending, an affront to his memory, and his legacy of good performances which the oscar peeps obviously didnt rate while he was alive.

Christopher Nolan would not sacrifice his own vision for the sake of an Oscar for one of his actors, so I have to disagree with you on that one. Give the man more credit than that. He thinks about everything in great detail.

And I think Ledger is fully deserving of the Oscar. You'll doubtlessly find this hard to fathom, but I would have tipped him for the Oscar had he not died. He was simply brilliant.

indeed

i knew as soon as i heard the news he had died that many people would just put an oscar down to sympathy

but the buzz coming from insiders regarding ledgars performance were in existence way before his untimely passing and after seeing the finished film i too believe that he deserves the award.

Johnny Depp was nominated for the Best Actor gong for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow. Would he have won had he died? I keep thinking about this. It's a toughy.

Arnie as Mr Freeze?
Madge Blake as Aunt Harriet?

For the FM who thought that Batman Begins was better than Dark Knight - get real. Batman Begins was just boring. The two Tim Burton Batmans were better than Batman Begins...

Time will tell i guess.

my personal belief is that we will see a "directors cut" at some point which is shorter (been done before by other so called auters)

the other alternative is that the studio does a "studio extended cut where they cut in back stage footage of Heath in Makeup" for 4 hours.

whatever. you say that yet begins at the time was regarded as a classic film that redfined what we thought of superhero movies. begins is a good film and imo is better then DK.

if he wins it will be entirely down to his death & the writers strike (severly reducing the number of good performances/films this year)

no banker "war hero" or "half-retard" roles i can remember.

for my money Downey Jr should get it this year for Tropic Thunder lol!

was just asking as people I know who love him as the joker all seem to be young people..and at 37 I think him not very good and didn't think him a good actor anyways but like when most actors die they seem to be the best there ever was..and as sorry to any fans that's out there but it always seems to be the fact with young actors that die
