Heat: De Niro or Pacino

Watched this Movie last night and wondered who is the most popular actor out of these two screen legenRAB.

For me it has to be De Niro he has such charisma and screen presence and I also find him to be more versatile..:)

Who's yours?

I liked both and for a long time I liked De Niro better.

However, as I've gotten older, I now favour Pacino more.

Reason is, I think, is despite how bad the film is, I always find Pacino more interesting to watch. He has better screen presence than De Niro IMO.

That's why I would rent a film starring Pacino despite hearing how bad it is (eg 88 Minutes). I wouldn't do that for De Niro.

Yep, i'm exactly the same. People go on about Pacino being a one trick pony "he plays the same shouty character". He doesn't. He has real presence. I'd watch any film with him in as you know he's got the chops to do it. Whereas De Niro, whilst a fine actor; no doubt, just isn't the same. I couldn't give two sh*ts about some new comedy vehicle he's in.

I would have said by the early 70s it was Pacino, then mid to late seventies and throughout the 80s it was a flip up as they were both at the top of their game.

Possibly the same with early 90s though i'd probably side with De Niro, though Pacino did have some decent performaces in that time. Unfortunately after that they both went down hill and started playing charactures of them selves.

For some reason (in my head anyway) Pacino started using a kind of Southern accent. This went from Scent of a Woman (Whoo-ah), Recruit, all the way through dire films like Two For The Money.

and De Niro just had his smirk of a facial expression to fall back on.

Don't think either have done anything decent in the noughties. Righteous Kill probably says it all!

De Niro easily!

Pacino annoys me. I think he overacts.

I was routing for De Niro in Heat :D Great film.

'Heat' is probably in my top 10 films. I can't recall seeing Pacino in anything since 'Insomnia' (rather good) or De Niro since '15 Minutes' (fair)...which may tell its own story.

At their best, very difficult to split them...but occasionally Pacino has annoyed me with his shouty acting

De Niro all the way as he's been outstanding in most of his roles up until mid-90s...he has me transfixed. Pacino's good but overrated imo.
