Heartbeat (1992 - 2010)

I thought it was great to end the series on a cliffhanger and the entire episode was very exciting and well acted. I will miss Heartbeat.

It isn't though, You do realise ITV have cut their Drama budget by over 25% since these episodes of Heartbeat were made years ago.

Heartbeat will be replaced by cheap travelogues not new drama!
 
ITV went about a series of costcutting and axed programmes , yet they had I beleive already decided what they wanted rid of which could be seen in the way they treated them. Heratbeat and The Royal a few eps at a time spread through the eyar, The Bill was running out of contracted episodes so they got TalkbackThames to relaunch it , cut it to one per week and stick it on at a different time and when they were near the end of the contract and would have had to order more eps they announce the axe.

Yet they offfer Simon Cowell
 
Didn't Heartbeat start in 1990 or 1991?

I remember ITV where going through a series of different Drama's and where really brilliant at them but when Heartbeat came out and it was such a hit, I got the strongest impression they must have shelved other drama's they had for more Heatbeats.

The drame they showed before Heartbeat was A Perfect Hero with Nigel Havers and then they moved onto Heartbeat and again, I'm sure it wasn't inteded to be a long running show at all back then.

The first few series where the best, Niamh Cusak was so so gorgeous. Lovely face, gorgeous shapley legs, lovely figure generally, such a hottie she was, missed her bigtime when she left.
 
Like a lot of people I haven't watched Heartbeat for a long time now (I tired of being stuck in the 1960s, I often felt we should've been in the 1970s by now, but we have Life on Mars for that, LOL.)

It's a shame ITV1 swung the axe this year, after keeping the cast and crew in suspense (using too many episodes 'in the can' as a poor excuse.)

The ending is typical ITV1, Peak Practice suffered the same fate (Eva Pope and Maggie O'Neill falling over the edge into a quarry as Gray O'Brien watched on, helplessly) leaving loyal viewers on the edge of their seats, wondering about the fate of the characters.

I'd think Oscar died from his injuries, giving the raising of the toast from his friends and work colleagues; but it's nice to know the viewer has the power to be more optimistic.

It's also shameful ITV1 felt the need to talk over the last credits (especially over the better version of 'Without You'!) but the same happened to The Bill, and ITV1 don't seem to care about the viewer these days.

Given that finances are tight; and celebrity-based programmes are 'cheaper' to produce, I doubt we'll see ITV1 making another long running series like Heartbeat EVER again
 
It's rather ironic that Heartbeat has consistently been in ITV's Top 5 since they started showing it this Summer... (only beaten by Corrie and Emmerdale)
 
I'm so upset I've had to console myself with a bottle of wine (as you do!). AND they left it on a cliffhanger! :eek: Well in my world he'd not dead, no way, na da. He'll be propping up that bar in no time.

I will miss my sunday night escapism :cry:
 
HOLBY CITY costs 200k per hour, Get rid of it say commission a glossy spooks style shows which costs 1.2m a episode.

So instead of 52 weeks of Drama in the shape of Holby, you'll get 10 weeks of drama and 42 weeks of cheap traffic cops style shows.

You're living in a dreamland if you think that by axing Holby City you'll have a huge pot of money to spend on new dramas.
 
I don't remember that in the first episode, but do remember a flash when they where under the covers laughing loudly about to get it on.

If I was Nick Berry I definetly would have made a move on her.
