Health Problems associated with anything but show breeders? (BYB's in many of...

...your opinions)? I am curious as to the logic of this. Everyone lists all of the multiple horrendous problems associated with any dog that isn't bred for the purpose of showing or bettering the breed. If all supposed byb dogs had multiple health problems, wouldn't all of the shelter dogs that everyone seems to push have the exact same chances of having health problems? I just find it very hard to believe that practically every dog not bred for excellence will have debilitating health issues.

Also, everyone says how much cheaper shelter dogs are than buying from a byb. Maybe it is different in different states, but I cannot find a shelter dog that is under 10 years old for less than 300 dollars. I can get a puppy in the newspaper for cheaper than that, so what is the incentive to buying a older possibly problematic dog elsewhere?

I am not trying to causes problems here, I am just genuinely curious. Please give me logic, and not the same trite stuff I read everywhere on these boards.

Logic...Well if people like you keep buying from back yard breeders, then they will keep breeding their mutts. You know? Economics 101 -- Supply and Demand!

More logic? Look at pit bull type dogs, GSDs, Dobbies, Rotties....and I'm sure lots of other ones...the so called "popular" breeds that every Bob, Dick and Harry tried to breed in the last couple of decades....Those dogs barely resemble what they originally looked and acted like....

Some more logic....it has little to do with health. Yes some mutts have no health problems....but you have to take into consideration temperament, genetics, drives...etc. Believe me, BYB's could care less about that! So you get millions of neurotic, timid, fearfull, aggressive dogs being born each year because someone thought that FLUFFY was cute and wanted to fatten up their wallets
