Health benefits of losing BMI points as opposed to pounds?

Hi everyone!

What are the health advantages of losing BMI points as opposed to simply losing weight? I'm hoping maybe someone here can clear that up for me.

A little background: I am someone who a year and a half ago weighed 321 lbs (I am 5'3"). Since then, I have lost 112 lbs and am looking to lose another 70 or so. My nutritional counselor tells me not to worry about pounds so much as BMI points. I was originally at a BMI of 57 and am now at 43. Every time I go to him, I simply forget to ask what the health benefits are with BMI vs. pounds.

FYI. I already know that BMI stands for Body Mass Index, that weight is a number on a scale, and that BMI is a way to measure weight in relation to height.

Thanks so much!
