I was recently pressured into buying the monster beats solo hd's after going into best buy, disheartened to see only sony, bose, and monster headphones. Don't get me wrong, I like the cans.
Pros
1. closed design, it block out outside sound pretty well
2. Heavy bass (as a young guy, I appreciate a lot of thumping bass)
3. design, I'm loving the white hd's
Cons
1. Its expensive for being not full sized, around ear headphones, you are paying for the brand
2. the sound quality didn't blow me away, it is good but as a self proclaimed audiophile it did not impress me
3. The headphones are a bit too tight, uncomfortable for extended wear
I'm new to the audiophile/hifi world since I'm a poor college student but I want better quality cans than the beats. I've been looking into the senn 595 and I've got mixed reviews. Some say they are good but then the hardcore audiophiles say that the bass is lacking and it seems a little flat. Not to mention that buying an amp would be preferable (especially for an ipod). In addition the 595's are open, non isolating. As for amps, I don't want to change batteries every 20+ hours, it doesn't need to be portable, but it needs to be affordable and usable with an ipod and laptop. Amps are expensive :/
Should I stick with the beats or should I return them and get a higher quality pair of headphones? I want to stick to a similar price range 150-200$ (including amp if needed) although i am willing to compromise a little if it is worth it.
oh and also, i don't think the solo hd's have a significant burn in time as far as i know so i'm taking the quality as is...
