I woke up with a horrible headache this morning about 12 hours ago and it still hasn't gone away. I took tylenol this morning but it was no help. This headache seems to be quite a bit different than my normal headaches. Normally, I have pain around my sinuses...my nose, eyes and forehead...but this headache is there AND like in the back of my head...right behind both of my ears...and when I touch it, it hurts...it seems to be a bit more raised in there as well but I don't know if it's just in my mind. Are there any glands or anything in that area?

I had this same problem a couple years ago - it turned out to be minor mastoiditis, an infection of the bony process on the skull behind the ears. I had to have a CT to diagnose it, but after a round of antibiotics, I was better.

My sister had something similar a few years back. Ended up being a behind the ear infection. She had to get antibiotics.

It may be nothing more than sinus pressure, but since it's hurting in a different place you should probably get it checked out. It could possibly be mastoiditis, as someone else said, and if so you may need an antibiotic. My advice would be to talk to your doctor. Hope you feel better.
