I don't know much about car audio, so I figured someone on here might be able to help me. I just bought a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT and want to put a new system in it. My question (although slightly stupid) is can i put a head unit in it? The reason I ask is that the display for the track info etc is in an area apart from the actual cd player. Will that affect anything? Also any suggestions on subs/amps to purchase? I want a decent system but money is an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You CAN get a new head-unit. Since you're planning on getting an amp and subs, choose a head-unit that has the features that you like. Don't choose a head-unit for the RMS or PEAK power it has b/c it most likely won't reach that, and there isn't much of a difference from 22w rms x 4 channels and 25w rms x 4 channels. Many good systems for amps and subs are: Alpine, Hifonics, Pioneer, Kenwood, Infinity, JL, Rockford Fosgate, etc. These are in not particular order, though.

A system (subs and amp) that you could get is this:

Get two of these

and don't forget to get an amp kit and wire for the subs. Good luck!
