He Was Supposed to Be Competent

Obama involves himself when he doesn't allow the states to do what they think is best to help themselves.

thats funny cuz all the drill baby drill people said it was one rig in some 3000...the second spill in some 40 YEARS..and thats a rightwing/conservative talking point.
even when Obama agrees with you you guys still bitch..

No, but you can point out the hypocrisy of holding Bush to one standard and Obama to another. Why did the left crucify Bush for his failure to handle Katrina but give Obama a ride on this? Because they're sackriding morons.

Cliffs: It's okay to point out hypocrisy.

Katrina was mostly 1 state, the state governor had the main responsibilty. This is the ocean. It affects multiple states, federal land, international water, etc... so yeah, I'd say the federal govt has the best place to take control of the cleanup.

Someone needs to write an EDU as to how Obama should have been using his magic oil spill powers to clean up from the get go.

Okay. Here's your EDU.

Ring.... ring....

"Good Morning, British Petroleum, can I help you?"

"Yes you can, and thank you for asking. This is Barack Obama, and i'm calling from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Is this the CEO of BP? It is? Good. Okay sir, let me tell you why I'm calling. Your company is responsible for one of the worst ecological disasters in American history. As President, I'm giving you 30 days to stop the flow of oil and make significant progress, as defined by whoever I choose to monitor your efforts, on cleaning up the spill. You will be responsible for all costs.
If you fail to meet my expectations I will use the authority and power granted me as POTUS to make sure that you regret your failure. I'm the head of the EPA, the Justice System, and every single regulatory body you deal with. I will levy fines, press criminal charges, and generally make it impossible for you to do business in one of the most lucrative markets in the world.
Do we understand each other? We do? Good. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your progress reports. You know how to get in touch with me."

There's your fucking EDU, and his failure to step up and make it happen is just as reprehensible as Bush's during/after Katrina.

Not true. Except that we make so much money off of taxing you that we would be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Yawn.

I'm sorry. I thought the attorney general worked for POTUS.

I apologize for mis-stating.

Yeah, cause none of their competitors would fill the void. Excellent reason to fail to hold them accountable.

No, and I know that.

However, that's how it should work, and that's how it would work if "we" weren't worried about pissing a major donors/lobbies.

It's a sign of how pathetic our government is that the idea of it's titular head calling up a business that operates under our sufferance and demanding they handle one of their errors like professionals is sad or shocking.

Fucking pathetic.

this thread has so much shit in it....it's hard to start in one place.

From self-fulfilling prophecies....to Lew calling out a clear illogical point many people hold (and then being told he is obviously wrong)....to claims that the President is the head of the justice system.

fucking christ.

Stopped after the first line. You queers are so desperate for a Katrina it's laughable. Once again, the worst thing about modern conservatism is it gave the most ignorant among us a voice...and a loud one at that.
