Katrina was a failure of city/state government. Most of the deaths are on Mayor Nagin.

Not giving FEMA a pass, their fuckup came later. After the dead were....dead.

Earthquake striking in bankrupt California, whoever is in charge is going to eat shit when that happens.

what happened to "the earth naturally spills much more oil than this..blah blah"

"Its just one accident in hundreds of oil rigs..blah blah"

all of sudden the drill baby drill people are environmental activists?

fuck outta here

I think the Wall Street Journal is a reputable paper.

however, when I read the line about " mud, golf balls and rubber", I tuned out.

clearly the author didn't grasp that there is no answer other than drilling a relief well. and it is BP's choice on how to execute this. And, it is not actually mud. what an asshole remark if she knew better. shame on her if she didn't, opining about responses to technical problems when author does not grasp what is going on.

the government doesn't have any expertise in stopping the oil flow. But nobody does. It is a truly unprecedented event.

maybe the government could be doing a better job coordinating the cleanup? But they have committed a lot of manpower to it. Im just not sure what people expect out of the government to be doing.

Depending on who you use as a reference. This oil disaster (if it is over), is still about 1/10th as big as the largest oil spill. Mexico still holds that honor.

This has nothing to do with people being pro drilling. It has to do with the poor handling of this disaster by the Obama admin. Where are all the bleeding heart liberals who accused Bush of hating black people because of the poor handling of the Katrina disaster?

You can't have it both ways you stupid fucking Republicans.

Either the government should be involved in these events, or not.

You can't say that Bush should have stayed out of Katrina, but criticize Obama for staying out of the way. You can't say that intervention in the markets is a bad idea, while criticizing Obama for staying out of this mess.

Cliffs: Fuck you guys.

you know the drill..if obama was there every dy "he's in the way...he's ineffectual.. its insincere he's just there for show"

If BP had plugged the hole any faster then the govt had nothing to do with it. IF the govt takes over and stops the leaking then why didn't they do that in the first place week into the disaster...

the bitching never stops

After eight years of his predecessor as president being a failure at everything, it's a bit much that you expect Obama to be an improvement.
No one expects a president to be competent anymore.
So far he's done very few of things he said he'd do.

Fuck off. You're just partisan as they are. If McCain was President right now, and he did the same thing, you'd be bitching about it nonstop.

Honestly i dont really care whose "Fault" it is.

It was a horrible accident and def shouldn't be compared to katrina and all the lives lost there due to neglect.

I figure no matter whose in charge McCain or Obama this would still be a fuckshit horrible shit to deal with and we'd be in the exact same state we are in now. It just seems like now people are throwing the blame potato around so they wont get shat on during the election.

Dude, I don't want Obama involved in the BP mess. But, believe it or not, he has gotten himself involved while not doing anything. Just yesterday he took credit for being on top of things. That means he's put himself into a position of expectations, and he's failed to deliver ANYTHING.

This article merely describes how this, and everytihng else he's eff'd up, is ruining his ability to lead.

Stop limiting yourself to a 2 ft view.

Obama involved HIMSELF in the BP mess when he sent his people around saying the Administration was involved "from day 1".
