He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002)?

Well, the funny thing for Mattel is that- unlike virtually every other revived property( and I'm not referring to mere few years later, but like 20 years later), Mattel has utterly failed a successful relaunch of their OWN NICHE BRAND- TWICE! And they have to live with knowing that.

Again...many of the fans don't help much, either...

While I do agree the hardcore fans can be pretty unforgiving when it comes to He-Man, I don't think they were completely off base. I am a fan of the 200x series and am very glad to see this coming to DVD, but I wished they had a little more focus and had more balance in satisfying their target audiences. From a commercial standpoint, it's logical to have a greater focus on action sequences to appeal to younger kids and sell toys. Characters need to be introduced in order to sell their toys. He-Man always has been a toy-based series.

However, I would have preferred to see more progression of the story and less on filler. Episodes like 'The Ties That Bind' and 'The Power of Grayskull' are generally more popular among fans for a reason. I was never a big of the Snake Men, so season two was a little disappointing. I had a lot of hope for season three, with the possibility of both Hordak and Adora hinted at.

I appreciate the MYP series for expanding the MotU universe and lore, providing their own spin while still staying true to the original. With the revival of this series on DVD and the rumored live-action He-Man movie finally coming to fruition (update), I'd say it's a good time to be a fan.

Well for the most part all of the toy lines from the 80's which have been relaunched haven't been as successful as they once were. I mean heck Ninja Turtles have had around three different relaunches the past couple of years. The biggest thing that killed MOTU were:

1. The cartoon was constantly moved around, making it hard for people to actually watch it.

2.The toy line wasn't handled as well as it could of been.

I just think there should have been a little more focus. So many characters were introduced in the first season, which I did enjoy seeing. But at the same time, it sometimes felt like there wasn't enough time for all of them. Many episodes did a very good job of fleshing out Eternia and the various peoples, but I would also like to see more of the story mythos fleshed out as well.

Perhaps filler is the wrong word to use, but I would have liked the series to be a little less action-heavy and feature more story.
