set to 1080p? I have a Vizio HDTV that initially sets HD at 720p, and produces the best quality images at 720p. However, I recently learned that apparently it can support 1080p.

However, when I watch a DVD or Blu Ray, 720p always seems to be the better option.

The difference is almost insignificant to most people, but it constantly distracts me when watching movies in 1080p that I can see particularly dark, dim-lit areas in the film appear to "flicker" or "flash" in a sketchy sort of way.

I notice this most noticeably in "The Dark Knight" DVD when the Joker tries to detonate the ferries, then it flashes to one of the boat's wall clocks. In 1080p, the backgrounds in both those shots tend to have this flickering, whereas in 720p, there is none at all.

Also tested, Stargate on Blu Ray. During the intro, with the names and main title sequence, the dark object has many spots that flicker in 1080p, but in 720p the flickering is reduced significantly, but still feels like it's still happening just a bit.

Does this mean my TV is capable of supporting 1080p, but works better with 720p? Or is my TV NOT capable of supporting 1080p, but just enables that option anyway for some reason?
