HDNET's Programming comes to ExpressVu (PPV)

I thought it was a whole weekend for $5.99? For 5 and a half hours thats way over priced. It's just not fair!! People in the USA on Dish Network get
ESPN HD, Discovery HD Theater, TNT in HD, HDNet and HDNet Movies all for $9.99 per month... and get it FREE for 6 months!

and we have to pay $6 for 5 hours of just one channel????? :o
 
Canadians should be allowed to watch these channels legally. Instead the government creates laws and imposes restrictions inhibiting access to channels that are popular and highly requested. The government also, labels its citizens criminals for attempting to watch channels that are outlawed.
 
Other than that the options we have are not much in this country (Shaw Cable or *C...no thanks).

The tv options in this country suck.You get no entertainment value at all for the money you pay,give me tnt,hdnet movies,hdnet, etc.
 
A better wording would be "Canadians will always want the freedom to choose what they want to watch and pay for".

Very aware of those facts but, i our previous posts, we where discussing what is available TODAY not in the future.
(The NY and LA don't count as you need to provide waivers or your local Networks have to be Owned and Operated by the main Network in order to be able to view NY and LA on DirecTV).

The CCTA sponsored HDNET. The association is presently lobbying the CRTC to approve it. BEV didn't do this. It's true that BEV filed an intervention with the CRTC in support of HDNET. This doesn't necessarily indicate that BEV is actively lobbying the CRTC to hurry up and approve HDNET so Canadians can have access to some genuine HD programming in this country and not a bunch of SD channels that carry little, if any HD content. CTV which is owned by Bell Globemedia just like BEV is trying to undermine HDNET's application and sabotage the approval process.



The CCTA only applied to the CRTC to bring in a single modified version of HDNET. If HDNET is approved there will likely be some differences between the U.S HDNET and the American version due to program rights issues. Blackouts or program substitutions will likely be in effect. The CCTA never applied to bring in HDNET Movies to Canada.
 
Your facts are wrong. The waivers for NY and LA are for SD channels. If you live in one of the O&O markets (Owned and Operated) then you can get the HD channels.

For instance if the CBS channel in Detroit is O&O (which i think it is) then you can get the CBS HD channel from NYC today.

Same goes for the other channels.

So, in a nutshell you can get HD Networks today from NYC or LA (probably not both) depending on where you live.

These rules have been in place for a few years now.

I'll easily admit that when it comes to Network HD we're better off but that's the only advantage I can think of.

I had Network HD channels from Directv but decided OTA was just as good then switched to HD via the cable company when the became available.
 
I assume you know that Directv has Network Channels in HD and they are launching more birds to provide regional HD channels (just NYC and LA exist today).
 
Go re-read what i wrote... That's EXACTLY what is said in my last message:

You can :

A) Either get waivers (quite hard to do)

or

B) If your Network is Owned and Operated you can get the HD network (not both, Only NY or Only LA).

The real problem is it's unlikely that ALL your network in your local area are Owned and Operated and it's also unlikely that you will be able to obtain waivers from ALL your local Affiliates = One way or the other you are screwed. Not to mention no time shifting.
 
Sorry, missed the O&O part. It's been a while since I've seen the O&O list but it was the largest cities. Plus, I would imagine most HD users probably yank in the signal for free via OTA (which is easy to do with a Directv box). I was pulling in Buffalo very easily with a Directv receiver.

Canada has no red tape (hey, it's not a Canadian signal being fought over so we are lucky) plus we have timeshifting.

So, if you're a yank living in hicksvillle then you're probably screwed otherwise you have O*O stations to save you or OTA.

It's not perfect but the content is available.

There is a third option. If your service address is in a "white area" (no OTA available), you don't need waivers and can get both LA and NY SD and HD feeds. That is what I do.
 
sorry to bring up an oldish thread, but any updates on HDNET? I really want to get all those hockey games in HD.... thanks!
