Does anyone know what happens to HDNet (ch 814) after the Jan 2nd free preview deadline passes? Do we have to subscribe to a particular theme pack or will it be part of the HD value pack that we pay $10 for.

from what i remember, HDnet will be part of HD Networks...since 99% of the people that have HD receivers subscribe to the $10 HD package, most will still have it.

However as BEv had told me numerous times. Every HD customer will have to call in to get it back on jan 2nd. They automatically remove it from everyone at first and then you have to call back in to get it. What a system they have in place. They did this for A&E as well.

Just exactly with a subscription to Digital Standard, US Networks, The Movie Network package and the HD package; what is included with "The Service". This has become confusing for me and I'd just like to make one call after the 2nd to get it all squared away. I don't believe I've "stolen the thread" here and maybe it will clarify it for others.

Thanks,
-Dave

called yesterday to get back a&e and he told me that he had to add 2 other channels to my hd pac too so it must be hdnet as one of them

My HD-Net disappeared at some point this afternoon.

After waiting 15 mins to talk to a level 1 programming rep, he asked me to verify Rev #, etc. Then also had me do a reboot while he put me on hold again to get more info. This took an additional 7 minutes.

I had mentioned to him that I had previously lost the others then he came back onto the line to advise me that as I was on a 'Legacy' package and would have to 'update' to be eligible to get the channels.

I was adamant that I did not wish to make ANY changes to my programming as under the current pricing, it would cost me an additional $20.00 or so to get fewer channels, just for the sake of re-gaining A&E HD, Discovery HD and HD-Net.
I told him that it would not be worthwhile for me to do this and I'd be better off cancelling my service and trading my receivers in to Rogers for their 'ditch the dish' promo.

He then advised that he would 're-initialize' my 2 HD boxes to get the 3 lost HD channels back on (not that I'm expecting this to happen) WITHOUT any changes to my billing ( I confirmed that there would not be any changes twice and got his ID# in case this becomes an escalated issue once the new bill comes in.)

I had previously decided to switch providers anyway come the new year, but with the recent improvements in PQ on Cdn HD stations and in sim-subs, I decided to ride it out for another month before doing anything rash.

I'll post here with an update when the 15 min- 2 hour timeframe has passed to see if there's been any change.

So here it is, 2 hours and counting past when the correction was to have taken effect, and no change.

No surprise.

If I'm not entitled under my current sub pricing (Super 6), then I'm not entitled. But the csr should not have given me false hope just in an effort to get me off the phone to keep his AHT (Average Handle Time) stats in line.

wait it out a while and do a Hard Reset. Activations/programming changes are taking up to 24hours to kick in these last 2 days!

I activated a new HD box and it took close to 5 hours after activation for some channels started to trickle in.

That's some kinda delay !

I'll give the hard reboot a try in the a.m. but I'm not holding out much hope.

I think it was already covered in another thread (perhaps on another forum) that if you're not signed up on the Digital Standard form of sub, then you're s.o.l. for getting HD-Net included with your $10.00 HD pack.

i am part of ultimate 12 pack and the HD pack as well. I lost HDNET.

I am pretty unhappy about this and plan to give them a call.

I still have HDNet 814 as of this morning. Is it just the older, legacy packages that are loosing HDNet?

Apparently that's the case. Same deal when Discovery HD and A&E HD preview ended.

Anyone with grandfathered packages lost the new channels, but those on current sub rates continued to receive them.

I still haven't been able to find out how much it would be to add it back on (or if it's even possible without losing my current sub rate).

On a side note, a buddy of mine who closed his account last year due to the reverse-face on the 'have Expressvu at the cottage' position by BEV was recently at an electronics industry meeting which was also attended by a higher up in Expressvu.

When he was asked by this executive if he was a BEV sub and was told that he closed his 6 year-old account due to their change of position on the cottage issue and sold off his equipment, he was offered (and accepted) a free 9200 rental for a year, 6 months free programming for whatever package he wanted ( he took the full offering of English channels, all HD, all Movie channels) and was offered a free re-install of equipment at a time of his choosing and convenience.

So the deals are there to be had, you just have to know who to talk to.

af, For the most part correct... except a significant number of people on new packages lost A&E-HD and have to call in to get it back. I still don't have it back and frankly I don't want to waste 45 minutes of my time on hold to add back a channel with such little HD content! ;) I'm glad that HDNet was handled a bit differently this time around as I still seem to have it. I stopped my legacy package last fall becuase I couldn't handle the inflexibility of not being allowed to make any programming changes.

well i called and only genesis and AIO customers will be keeping new HD programming. I can't buy it separate either.

Not happy about this.

I have a "legacy package" - with 7 theme packs including HD networks, TSN HD - always included the HD cannels until A&E came and went - didn't really care about A&E most of the programing was upconverted SD programing, I do care about HD Net though as the programing is of excellent quality.

Also in the last little while I have an off air message or promotional message on some of the US networks and now no HDnet. Anyone else have this package - will they restore HDnet if I call.

it is the all in one but without the receiver costs as it shows right now. It is the programming of the last 2 or so years.

Thanks for the info Q.

That still post-dates my sub period. IIRC, I've had this package for 7 or 8 years (save for the addition of HD 2 years ago).

If they will not allow the purchase of HD-Net seperately by we 'Legacy' subs, I don't think I'll make any changes to my programming (unless it's to cancel) for the sake of this one channel. Too bad as they had some great programming. It gives you an idea of how good HD can look. CTV and Global should pay attention.
