Hawaii Military Personel not paying rent on time!?

We had rented out our apartment to a couple who were in the military in October 2008. Since then the husband has been deployed to Iraq. We haven't started having any problems with the wife up until about two months ago. The rent is due on the 1st, we never got a rental payment until the 20th of June! Apparently she got her orders that she was also going to be deployed to Iraq and has been in and out of the hospital because I guess she can't handle the fact that she's getting deployed. So again this month she's late again. Its July 21st and still no rent. Apparently out rental manager (Who suck by the way) said they got in touch with her commanding officer and he said she will be getting out of the hospital again tomorrow, but all he could do was tell her to pay the rent and that he couldn't make her. She is now getting discharged from the army. so I'm worried she'l just go back to the continental USA without paying me anything. Then I'll have to get a lawyer which will probably cost me more to hire to get back the monies she owes.

Am I wrong, but doesn't the federal goverment give these military personnel cola, or housing allowance?! So where the hell is my rent?! I have to pay my rent too...and because of it an having trouble paying my own bills.

How do I get the federal government to pay me. I heard somewhere that the if a military person doesn't pay the government will pay you directly.

Why do people join the military then stress out when its time to go to war...I'll tell you why to take advantange of all the damned benefits but unable to actually do what is required of being in the army.
FYI guys, I'm a military brat, so I know what it take to be in the army. Its people like her who give the military a bad name. I've gone through alot of stress and issues in my life and have always been responsible and paid my bills on time. I have two kids, and work full time for the state of Hawaii. Back off, I need to feed my kids, they don't have any!!!!!!!!!

I sympathize that you are having difficulties with your finances due to this situation. I regret to inform you that soldiers are not all made in the same mold, and that there are some of us who are irresponsible. That said, there is not enough information here to determine what the cause of the problem is.

Her CO is correct. He cannot make her pay her rent. You should be able to resolve the situation by contacting her Brigade S-1. They should be able to direct you appropriately.

I take great offense in the title of your post. There are thousands of service-members living in Hawaii. We contribute a huge amount of money to the economy of the islands. By and large we are honest, dependable, honorable people. Stating that we, as a group, are not paying our rent is offensive.

Again, I'm sorry for the trouble that you are having, but not all military members are the same, and there are bad apples. Don't bunch the rest of us with them.

Do you have a contract? If so, take it to HR (I forget which S- shop it is, I know it's not S-3)

They can take the pay out of her check and send it to you.

..I can sympathize with you on the rental problem. As to why people join the military, I'm sure those benefits you mentioned more than make up for being away from your country, your friends, your family..missing the births, the deaths of those they love, all to make sure people like you can complain about people like them freely and openly. The woman is wrong not to have paid you, but her health and choices are none of your business.
