Having a thumb issue

Alright well I didn't know what section this should be posted in because I've talked to many people and they don't really know or understand the problem I have:

To get this out the way, I am a gamer so my hands are always using some video game controller. The problem I have is that my right thumb feels unresponsive like when I want to do somethin it takes a minute to register, and once that command does kick in, my thumb does this involuntary bend up motion and I have to pause for a minute to calm myself down and reset it by moving it around(Not with my other hand but by telling that same thumb to do so).

Obviously you have flattened the nerve in your thumb by keeping it pressed down most of the time pressing buttons, etc. It is similar to Carpal Tunnel in the wrist.

See an orthopedic doctor who specializes in upper extremities or hands for proper treatment.

Best to let thumb rest for six weeks, it sounds like it needs a good rest!

Wow. Actually I went to an orthopedic doctor and they said they never seen my problem. They took xrays and everything, should I go back and try to explain my situation again?

Hi

Sounds like what we used to call "Atari Thumb." Using the joystick repeatedly for long hours at a time. A break away from the games ( as hard as that can be!) for a couple of weeks and improvement would occur.

Honestly, I can not imagine that orthopedics would not be familiar with this. using a mouse constantly is so similar to using a joystick. I might see another doctor rather than returning to the one you saw.

Good luck

Well my thumb would do this hitchhikers thing whenever I would start to press buttons on the controller. And when I explained that to him he said he never heard of that, maybe because I told him I don't feel pain? There's no pain at all, only this weird feeling of, this is not right kind of thing. I'll definitely go to another doctor about this. Thank you guys for the help. If anyone else has any input please let me know.

This is a really great website that I'm glad I found.

hi-

i agree with misty- also you seem to be describing the symptoms of "trigger finger"
or tenosynovitis(inflamation tendon/synovial fluid)- an ortho might suggest a trigger point inj of cortisone in the area-as was the case with me and it worked after getting two of these injections-you might want to consult an ortho who specializes in hands- my boss is an orthopaedic surgeon but primarily advertises as a hand specialist-so the other ortho's would always send us thier pt's with hand /finger/wrist problems
