I am a 50 yoa female who is very activate, 5 1/2 years ago i had a L5 disc replacement. Almost a year ago I started having back problems again and started having alot of left hip pain. I was told that L4 disc has gone bad and will need a fusion. The first surgery I had was not bad and the recovery was not bad, I have heard that a fusion is much worst and the recovery time is alot longer.Does anyone have any suggestions has to whether or not this will help me or if a fusion has helped them. I have had the back injections as well as in the hip. Nothing seems to help. the injections help for about a month. I have had the MRI and spinal ct showing disc degrat. How long and pain is the surgery and recovery time?

Hi, I just had a Spinal Fusion and Decompression at L4, L5, S1 on August 6th! I'm so glad I got this surgery! I had broken three vertabrae in my back from playing softball! This surgery has helped alot! I have been recovering ALOT quicker than expected! Don't get me wrong- I do still get some pain after doing too much work and I do get muscle spasms! But overall this surgery was very successful, and I already can walk more than three miles a day!

I had a fusion from S1-L4 and am doing great. I am 24 and I had it about 1 1/2 yrs ago. It was great I have NO pain anymore. In the hospital 6 days back to normal like 3 months (driving, walking long distances, standing for long perioRAB) it was totally worth it!
