I have a dog for almost a year now, and as a vegetarian I have been doing a lot of research to see whether my dog can have a vegetarian diet as well.
What I found was the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) has developed a Nutrient Profiles for Dogs, which can be a guideline for choosing a good vegetarian pet food with balanced nutrition that meets these requirements.
My dog has switched over 10 months ago and has been very healthy, very energetic and best of all, her odor reduced a lot!
But there doesn't seem to be a lot of options available in Australia market - so far I've been feeding her with vegetarian dog food from veganpet and biopet, and treats like vegetarian pig ears, pegetables, fruitables... Has anyone tried anything else?
I recently seen an ad in the Urban Animal magazine with a company called Vegepooch offering a new type of vegetarian dog food called vegepet. They are currently offering free trial pack, and mine arrived last friday. My dog seems to love it and finish the pack in seconds. Have you tried this with your dog? Do they like it?
