Have you ever stepped away from the Barn Dance?

“C’mon girl, let’s go!”
She leaps to her feet, ears at attention.
There’s a glimmer of sunlight left…
I pull my baseball hat down low over my eyes.
As I can’t really dance with her
This is how I say thank you for all she’s done.

We walk away from the party
From all the laughing and dancing…
Just for a few minutes.
The grass rises just above my ankles
She trots right next to me…
My friend, companion and protector.

I grab the tennis ball out of my back pocket
And launch it as far as I can.
She takes off like a thoroughbred…
Galloping across the grass,
Her long strides devour the field…
I can’t help but smile.

She fetches it and sprints back to me,
Dropping the ball at my feet…
“Good Girl!”
I pick the ball up and launch it again…
This is her Barn Dance.

Aw! C, that was awesome...

Can I replace "tennis ball" with "chewed up flip flop" for Jazzhands[my boxer]?
