I have. Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) spoke at my school a while ago. Technically, he isn't one of my favorites, but I used to be obsessed with him and I still like his books, so it was cool. He was nice, and, obviously, he had a good sense of humor.

I actually didn't talk to him much, just listened to the speech he gave. I felt like if I did I would have sounded like just another fangirl. But still.

Even better, he used to go to my school. And he used to be the Editor-in-Chief of our literary magazine, so, of course, he bought a copy. And guess whose two poems were published in the magazine? So now I can honestly say that a famous author has read my work. That's even better than talking to him.

Does anyone else have any experiences they'd like to share?

I attend SF conventions as a dealer and have met many excellent authors.
Possibly my favorite SF author is Mike Resnick and I'll be seeing him in Rochester this November.
I recommend going to comic or SF cons as a way to met some of your favorite people.
If anyone wants, I can put links to some cons here
