In 1963, I hitchhiked from Lansing, Michigan to Seattle to San Francisco and back to Grand Rapids. I was gone nine days, it cost me eleven dollars. Something between five and six thousand miles. Went back and forth from Michigan to New York City three or four times. Then I got married. No more hitchhiking.
