Have you ever had someone argue with you about what ethnicity you are?

I had my friend's mom argue with me today about me being black. I told her I was Nubian Egyptian and she kept arguing with me about my blackness. She called me an arab-- and told me if I wasn't arabic I was greek... It was irritating..but it made me wonder if this happens often with people- especially people who are mixed.
Yeah I couldn't believe she pulled the Greek thing- I don't even look Greek... An Arab was understandable. I am multiracial. But I look more Black than anything else. And that's what I prefer to claim- and be called.
Nubians are black people. And they were in Egypt first. Persians (Arabs) came when they invaded Egypt. Greeks and other Europeans came later. I'm not sure why- But my guess would be they were escaping something that was going on within their own country.
Currently Egypt is very multiracial-- but the original Egpytian were indeed black. You can be black without being dark skinned. And I don't look Filipino...Considering most Pinay people look Asian...
That makes no sense because the people that were there first-- would be the original. Just like Native Americans were/are the original Americans. White people just own the media nowadays so you never see them. That doesn't mean White people are the real Americans. And unless you're Egyptian Mr. Who- I doubt you'd know anyway. It's not like your family has strong connections to the country. And really you're only proving my point- You're arguing with me over my ethnicity- as If I wouldn't know.
Mr. Who... Seriously? I don't know if you noticed- but the masters of the slaves are also Black...In fact, in the paintings, the masters are darker than me. And I'm black... You're so stupid. You wouldn't even know. You can't even prove that everyone came from Africa. Just because a scientist says so doesn't mean it's true. At one point, the great scientist of the world thought that the world was flat. I'm going to stop arguing with you because this is frustrating me. Like #7 said- You can't fix ignorance.

I am a puertorican and proud of it but one time i was in the bakery and this guy came in saying "U SHOULD TALK ENGLISH! STOP BEING A SPICK" i told him to stfu lol

You look Philipino. Egyptians were not black. And there is proof of this by looking at their drawings on their walls. The slaves were painted darker than the people they were serving (The Egyptians).

I am not talking about who was their first. I am talking about the people behind the pyramids and the people behind the egyptian history and culture we all know.

They were not black. Their servants were black.

This adding to conquests give Egyptians a bit of Persian, Hitite, Greek and even Roman blood. Speaking of conquests, Egypt conquered Nubia. Nubians were proper blacks, racially different from Egyptians as many paintings depict, thus Egyptians were not black.

Im not arguing with you that you are not black. I am just saying the Nubians were black but they were not behind the pyramids and the ancient egypt we all know.

Oh yes...I've heard everythin from

"You can't be Dominican, they're Latino" (as if latino is a race)

"If you're Dominican then you're not Black" (As if you couldn't be both)

"You just don't wanna be Black" (Which is a lie, considering i'm more Afrocentric than most people, and many of THEM are ashamed to be called African)

Wow, that happened to you? I haven't had anything happen to me to that extent, but I've had people tell me I was lying about being Jewish. They say "how can you be Jewish when you're black?", "there's no such thing a black jew!", etc. In school, people make jokes about Jewish people and always say "no offense" after the joke. Either that, or they usually try to retract what they just said.

Yes. My parents are from Central America so naturally i should have a somewhat dark complexion yet I'm light skinned. i usually get confused with a white person which wouldn't really bother me so much if It didnt happen everyday. It also doesn't help that i sound white. To be honest looking at your avatar your dark but not the typical black found in black people most often. TBH I might confuse you as being from the middle east as well but it wouldn't be hard to figure out your not.

I tell my friends I'm Jewish and they say that it is a religion, not a background

it's also a culture!!!!! and a background!!!!

FRUSTRATING

Yes, and it gets annoying! I am multi-racial and A LOT of people say I look simply Hispanic I guess like Mexican or Puerto Rican. I consider myself Black though and Identify with Black culture and I only date Black men but people love to argue with me and sometimes people tell me I look Polynesian or Spanish.. IT"S ANNOYING!!

Yes. My dad is half Egyptian and my mom is some Spanish. People have argued that I'm "ashamed of my heritage" because I call myself White over Arab or Hispanic. Like first off, Hispanic isn't a race! And I'm not Arab. I'm Amazigh. Also, my neighbor is convinced that Egyptians are all black and said I was racist and in denial for calling myself white. Ugh.

Also, I hate when I hear people say "I'm exotic looking because I'm mixed." or say I'm "dark skinned" because I'm mixed and that white people can't be dark skinned. Ironically, I'm a spitting image of my grandmother who was just Austrian.
