Have you ever clapped in the cinema at the end of a film?

I remember everyone clapped at the end of 'Mamma Mia'. A decent film, deserved a clap for the smiles it put on a lot of people's faces.

Good God, Why?!?!? lol.

I've never applauded at the end of a film, but just about everytime i've been to the cinema this year i've heard people applauding at the end (briefly, before realising that nobody else is and they look like a complete tool), it seems to be catching on. At the end of Avatar (probably the only time i've felt it was deserved, at least on a technical level), Predators (when the music from the original's helicopter scene started playing over the credits), Inception (both times i saw it), Toy Story 3 (again, both times) and even the bloody A Team, people applauded.

If you're at a premiere or film festival and the film makers are there, then fine, applaud all you want, but at a regular screening it's totally pointless. Who exactly are you applauding? It's nothing to do with being uptight and needing to loosen up, it's just another stupid Americanism that seems to be catching on (i blame Twilight's rabid fangirls that applaud a guy taking his shirt off...it definitely seems to have been on the rise since those films were released), and honestly i find it quite cringe-worthy and embarrassing:o

I haven't personally, but the only time I've seen other people do it whilst in the cinema is at the end of New Moon, which was totally undeserved.

i clapped during "Shoot 'Em Up" ... and i'm not ashamed to admit it either :)

Well, two reasons really - I was the only one in the cinema for one, and the other was that it was the scene where clive owen starts running towarRAB the bad guys and "Ace of Spades" starts to play :D

Oh my gosh, I've never clapped at the end of a film and I've never been to a showing where other people have clapped!

I've just realised what a sheltered life I love, LOL. I would clap at the end of films if they either really good, or they have some amazing actors/characters in. For example if other people were I would have at TS3 and probably the Pirate of the Carribean films simply cos I love Jack Sparrow!

Wow, I'm so doing this at the next film I see. Just for the fun of it :p

I'm pretty sure I have but can't remember what film. It was either Avatar, or Alice in Wonderland (at the IMAX)

Some people were clapping after Toy Story 3 last week, and when I worked at the cinema I went in at the end of New Moon (the first day) and the whole cinema clapped and starting 'wooo-ing' lol. Well it went like 'gasp... noooo, clap, woo!' - and for anyone who hasn't seen it you wouldn't get the first 2 bits lol.

I was in a cinema in London watched Inglorious BasterRAB and a group of what appeared to be foreign students clapped then suddenly stopped when no one else was doing it :D :o

Never clapped at the end of a film, but quite a few people applauded at the end of Secrets and Lies when I saw it at the cinema

Applauded the last Star Wars movie :o

Saw Animal House at a cinema in London (doing a night of movies from National Lampoon) with my Da. Scene in it involved the head of the school advising the main protagonists to join the US Army. My Da stood up and rallied against this; being a Vietnam vet...

Round of applause from the audience :o :D

lol I almost starting started clapping at the end of the new Karate Kid film when I watched it the other day - a good film.

Yeah, happens a lot in America.

In the UK, Lord Of The Rings: ROTK is the only one I can remember where the entire audience applauded afterwarRAB.

I have been in a cinema in the uk where everyone clapped at the end. Can't remember what the film was, suffice to say I shrunk into my seat in embarrassment

Only twice and not ashamed to admit it:
Beauty and the Beast in IMAX
Seven Samurai - extended version played in a cinema that only shows old movies.

My sisters went to a screening of Strictly Ballroom not long after it had been out and the whole audience gave it a standing ovation apparently.

Only once Farenheit 9/11. The whole cinema broke out in applause. Yes, there wasn't anyone involved in the production there but at the same time, it allows the other audience members to see what appreciation you have for what you've seen, and applause is one of those spontaneous things that catch on. You can end up applaudin without meaning or realising it sometimes!

It was a good film indeed! I loved it! I'd be uncomfortable with people clapping at the end of this though as I wouldn't know if it was for the film or Justin Bieber singing

Going back quite a few years, i remember people clapping at the end of Star Wars and Grease (although they where clapping to the music during that as well:o).

A lot people clap at the begining of Star Wars (all the the ones I have been to even before the music starts).
