Have you been induced with your child? Stories and educated answers please?

Hi, I am 37 weeks pregnant with my first child. My doctor mentioned to me today about possibly being able to do an elective induction at 39 or 40 weeks. He also said they check things out to make sure that my body is ready for an induction if they were to do one. This pregnancy hasn't been the easiest out there. I am miserable most of the time due to alot of swelling in my legs, feet and hands and I am extremely fatigued most days. That's just right now, I had some complications thru out this whole pregnancy. I am just so ready for this to be over. Partly because I am anxious to have baby the here and due to the fact that I'm pretty miserable.

That all being said, I am 50/50 on the idea of having an induction. I like the idea because then I will have a day and time of when things will happen. I also like the idea because I then I know I won't have to stress about going over my due date by 2 weeks. And that means baby will be here sooner than later. But the thing that really bothers me is, some people I have heard say let baby come when they are ready. I am scared the induction could cause harm to the baby. But my doc said they would make sure everyone is ready. I just don't know what to think. I have alot of family and some friends who have had inductions and everything was fine. But I'm still leary. O how nice it would be thou. I'm considering it. Hubby says he's ok with it. We'll see. But thank you in advance for your input.
 
I was induced at 38 weeks with my first son. His movement in utero was not as frequent as it had been earlier. So they hooked me up to all the monitors and we saw that the baby's heart rate was a bit low, but not totally dangerous yet. But a few hours later when I was only about 7cm, they had to do a c section because his oxygen levels dropped dramatically.
 
I was induced with my son because I was running a 102 fever when I arrived at the hospital. They never figured out why either. I was full term (39 weeks) so they decided he needed to come out as fast as possible. I think they usually only do inductions when absolutely necessary. I guess the doctors sometimes make the choice though. It's not really anything to be worried about. If you are induced after 37 weeks you and the baby should be totally fine.
 
Many inductions go smoothly. However, in my experience it did not. I went into labor on my own, however once I got the epideral things started to slow down. They decided to induce me with pitocin after a while and that's when things really started to go down hill for me. I think the induction was unneccasary and caused everything to happen to quickly for my body. I ended up not being able to push the baby out and had to have a c-section, which i was completely unprepared for. My sister in law also just got induced 2 weeks ago with her baby, as she was 39 weeks and the baby was very large. She went in at 9pm in the evening, they gave her cervadil, she started having contractions but wasn't dilating at all. She ended up having a c-section as well. Both my baby and her baby are completely healthy, and I recovered just fine. SIL is having a little more trouble recovering than I did. Not telling you our stories to scare you, just to inform you that it may not always work out the way you planned, and you should go into it educated about all possible outcomes, especially an unplanned c-section.
