lift? I'll pitch in for gas.? I used to always hitch hike every weekend to Mexico when I was young. I lived in a small community where everyone knew each other therefore it was quite safe.

I've hitchhiked once but I wouldn't even count it as I ended up getting picked up by someone I know. I've always wanted to pick up a hitchhiker but I don't drive and whenever I suggest it everyone says no. I've also always wanted to hitchhike across the country, I don't know maybe I've read On The Road too many times? However I doubt I ever will.

hmm a kitten hitchhiking by itself doesn't seem very safe regardless of the small community.
 
I hitchiked all over in the sixties. But lots of people did then. I haven't even seen a hitchiker (and I doubt I'd pick one up) since sometime in the 1970s.
