have question about diluadid

I am not a drug addict nor recovering so I may be on the wrong board. But,, I sumised that someone from this board would know the truth before anyone else. I recently had surgery and every 5 min. for 4 times they gave me dilaudid was .5 iv and then when my body would not stop shaking they give me Demerol 12.5 every 5 minutes for three times. Then they gave me Roxicet 10 AND PHEN WERGAN 5 MINUTES LATER . THEY THEY DISCHARGED ME. tO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH THESE DRUGS DOESN'T IT SOUND LIKE THEY COULD HAVE OVERDOSED ME. i WAS NOT ACTING LIKE MYSELF . i ADMIRE ALL OF YOU WHO ARE TRYING TO OVERCOME. No it does not sound like you were necesarily overdosed. It sounRAB like they had a hard time getting control of your pain and had to switch medications several times to do that. The Phenergan is just an antinausea med, not a pain med, and it is often given with an IV pain med. What kind of surgery did you have? How long were you in the hospital? What were your pain levels? Did you have problems with the meRAB?

If you could answer thses questions, it would make it easier to answer your questions.

I was given morphine, demerol, dilaudid and toradol all at the same time during and after surgery. The morphine was an epidural during my bowel surgery, I was allergic to it so they switched me to a demerol drip, gave me dilaudid through my I.V. and gave me Toradol injections. I too was worried about them OD-ing me on so much pain medication but they said I was being closely monitored and not to worry. When I was being discharged from the hospital I was told that there was going to be some damage to my central nervous system due to all the different pain medications, so I guess I did have to worry after all! The only effect I noticed was strong twitches and kind of a jumping when I was trying to lie down to sleep. This continued for several months. I'm almost a year post-surgery and I only have the jumping/twitches occasionally.

I did not become addicted to any of the medications but I did develop a dependency on the Tramadol that was given to me in pill form to take home for pain. I was not advised that I would need to taper, and I had taken it for 8 weeks straight. I knew I was dependent because I would pick up the pill bottle, surmise that I really didn't have enough pain to justify taking a pill, and would take one anyway. I had to go cold turkey (that sucked) but I'm completely fine now.

km5t I guess the reason I was so surprised was that I was having foot surgery. Foot surgery can set you back for weeks at the time but at the same time it is not considered major surgery. however, i have been in a cast since march 21. From my recorRAB I sorta freaked out when I was coming out of surgery and then had the shakes and they were having a hard time getting me to come around. This I remeraber none of. About 4 days after surgery I had a withdrawal and was corabative and really unlike myself. Thanks for at least letting me know I was not overdosed.
 
Thanks for the support I have been to HELL and slain the demons Truth is Medical community stinks EXCEPT for those very few Docs that take the time to learn or are in recovery themselves. Relax you are fine SounRAB like you are a strong lady you are not addicted Take care and heal My prayers
