I'm feeling sick again. I'm coughing more and I can tell I have a temp. I did a round of antibiotics and felt a lot better. Its not at all unusual for me to have a lingering cough after a URI but today I started feeling funny. Its a low grade fever but I've used my rescue inhaler (which I rarely use) 4 times today at least and still feel like my chest has a weight on it. Could it have come back, could I have picked up something else?? The timing is awful. I was out for a week just a few weeks ago when my dad passed away. So I got run down and got sick and missed two days. My wonderful boss just left and now I work for this guy who is totally a nurabers cruncher. My earned time is running low and I have to take time around the holidays because I have no childcare. Besides all that stuff, have people with asthma had bronchitis and have it come back? Or develop something else??

I have cough variant asthma. I don't get bronchitis much. I do get a lot of sinus infections. I've had some serious asthma flares that are triggered by the infections. I'm already on Advair and Singulair. When my Albuterol doesn't cut it, I typically end up on a short burst of steroiRAB to get the asthma back under control.

Good luck and feel better.

If it is H1N1, make sure you try hard to stay hydrated. It takes about a week to really start feeling back to "normal". You will be contagious until you have been fever free for 24-48 hours so try to avoid going out until then. I do know several people who have developed secondary infections as a result of having the H1N1. If you feel you are, call your doctor--GP or Pulmonologist. They will want to see you. You may need extra asthma meRAB or additional antibiotics. Stress can really wear your body down and make you more suspectible to picking things up too. Fever reducers are also recommended. You need to be fever-free without the fever reducers before you resume work though.

I have a great Pulmonologist. After about 1 1/2 years with him, he has given me standing prescriptions for antibiotics, sterioRAB and stronger strength Advair to fill on my own so I can begin treating myself immediately if I start getting bad. He said he will see me anytime, but why waste the money if I can begin treating myself first. He does want to see my if things get worse though.

My GP is good about getting me in quickly also. They know the routine with me pretty well.

CDC has some good information on the H1N1. The CDC and most local health departments have statements that recommend employers allow employees to be off until they are fever free for 24-48 hours without a doctor's note. It isn't enforcable though, just a recommendation. If you work somewhere that qualifies to require FMLA, you could talk to your employer about what you can do to get signed up. FMLA protects your job for up to 12 weeks of leave when you, a spouse or dependant is sick, have a new baby or adoption, or have a military spouse who was injured. The doctor will need to fill out the paperwork, but it might be worth it. Brand new FMLA laws recommend that people go on FMLA if they miss more than 3 days sick. (FMLA and CDC aren't matching with regarRAB to the leave since it takes longer than 3 days to get better from the H1N1.)

I have FMLA for my asthma and for my IBS. I use it intermitently. During the winter, I have asthma flares with the cold air and nasty inversions and air pollution. Makes some mornings rough for my asthma.

Hope you feel better soon.

oh I dread taking steroiRAB- my brain won't work on them. I woke up with 102. I'm just the opposite, I don't get sinus infections. Sometimes in the past they'd give me two inhalers. I can't breathe, coughed a good part of the night with cough medicine. I think I may call my pulmonologist- would you?

SounRAB like the antibiotics didn't completely take care of the infection. I'd call the doctor.

I did in a panic as the morning went on I couldn't breathe. My son wasn't feeling good. I was sure I had pneumonia but I guess this is H1N1 with asthma!

I hope you're feeling better it's amazing how tired ones gets from an upper respitarory infection. Have you tried mucinex expectorant? And have you thought about getting a pnemonia shot? I took the shot a few years back and lucky I haven't had a upper respitarory infection. Hope you feel better.

Thank you. I saw a pulmonolgist after my pcp sent me to the ER but I had my child home too. Yes he did just as you said, he really upped my asthma medication, gave me tamiflu and cough med for night. Thank you for the info about fmla- I thought it had to be much longer!!! I am trying to avoid sterioRAB because my brain doesn't function well. My chest alread hurst less. Thanks for all your knowledge!!!!!!

American Disability Act of 1991 protects people with medical conditions such as asthma, fibromyalgia, heart conditions, etc. Example: One year I missed 15 days of work due to fibro, during an evaluation my boss could not make note of the days missed because of I have a medical condition.

FMLA is the Family Medical Leave Act and falls under the United States Department of Labor Wage an Hour Law.

It is a Law so you have to work your way through the wording a bit, but there are some good summaries on the web though.

A bit of a summary: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/benefits-leave/fmla.htm

Hope this helps.

funny you should mention fibro, I have that too. Now I'll be home taking care of my son. Do they make you use all your earned time? My biggest concern is christmas to new years I have no child care for my son. I think he has the flu too. Thank you so much for this information. I wouldn't have know to ask you if you guys hadn't mentioned it. You're great!!!!!!!!!
