have BB8700, curious about cing 8525

Hi all,

I have an 8700, and find it great for basic web browsing and email. But, my company does not have a blackberry server, so i end up just setting up a basic forward to my BB email, so my contacts/calendar need to be synced via software and a connection to my computer... what im looking for is a phone that will work with MS directpush, or goodlink.

I need the phone for email, MSOffice document reading, and occasional web surfing. Being able to use as a laptop modem would be a great nice-to-have.

The treo 750 and 8525 look pretty neat... the 8525 seems great due to the screen size and full keyboard, but i hear some horror stories on battery life. I previously used a WM2003 phone and thought it was nice, so the OS is OK.

Anyone have any comments? Preferably, anyone tried both the 8700 and one of the above devices (8525/treo750)? Im anxious to get some feedback.

ps, im on cingular... cant change that.

Thanks!!

I never tried the 8700, but I used to use a BB7100. It was good for email, but other than that it was just lacking in too many features. I now have the 8525 and it is really great. Don't be dissuaded by the battery life stories, it will last you an entire day without any problem, but you do need to charge it every night. That is the reality of all modern smartphones, battery technology has just not kept up. The battery life on the 8525 is better than on the treo. There are free hosted exchange servers out there so you can get push email sent to your device from your work or personal email, and Windows Mobile does a better job of handling multiple email accounts than the blackberry. I would finally suggest the 8525 to you because working with documents is easier on the 8525 because of its large comfortable keypad, which is nicer that any blackberry or treo's keyboard.

Thanks!! Helpful comments. I'm used to about a day on my 8700, so that's bearable. Can you tell me the following (apologies if this is something people repeatedly ask):

- what yahoo I'm client is available that doesn't charge for sms use?

- what free exchange hosts do you recommend? I see web2mail from a basic google search.

Thanks again...

I am sorry I can't help with a yahoo client, I have used a free one called Imov, it is free and you can use yahoo messenger with it, but I don't use yahoo. For exchange I use port88.org, the good thing about that one is you can mask the outgoing mail to look like it comes from any address you want. The draw back is that is is run by a hobbiest so help can take up to a day.
