Have any Trainees for the U.S Army Airborne School, ever been killed in

training (Recently)? I am just curious. I would really like to become Airborne, but of course i am doing research before hand to make sure if I am really fit to become Airborne. I am only 17 and i plan on being a MP for the Army and I would like to become Airborne.
I am just doing research now to make sure that being Airborne is right for me.

Can you describe the type of para shoot they use? I watched videos on you tube and I is much different than 'skydiving' shoots. How does the shoot open as soon as you jump? I see they hook something up in the plane before they jump, what is it? Explain..

No trainees have been killed at airborne school. I'm not sure what type of parachute they use. The hooks they use keep the chutes closed until you jump out of the plane.

The parachute the Army currently uses, the T-10 model, is not designed for maneuvering, more for a controlled fall. The last thing you want when you're jumping with a full string of people is jumpers flitting around, getting lines tangled, stealing air from canopies, stuff like that. You'll still come down somewhere in the area of 20-25 feet per second. The chute will allow some minor maneuvering, but nothing along the lines of the chutes civilian jumpers and teams like the Golden Knights use. The Army is in the process of developing a new chute, which will descend at a slower rate and hopefully reduce injuries but that's still in the development phase.

As for how it opens, it's called a static line. Approximately 15 feet long and is hooked to a cable on the inside of the aircraft. When you jump out the static line takes care of pulling your ripcord and deploying your chute. Only time you would have to manually open a chute is when your primary canopy fails and you have to deploy your reserve.
