Have any developers commented on the Wii?

The wii is neat and all, and I hear great things about zelda, but I'm still up in the air about it.

It seems that the controller will totally make or break every game. If it's a pain in the ass, as I would imagine, I would expect to see many more "3.0 rated fishing" games. Which as a result makes GOOD niche games less likely I think. Not only do you have the challenge of dev.ing a good game, but also, you have to be creative with your Wii use else you are going to get marked down in all the rankings.

This is part of the reason why I think the only good Wii game out right now is Zelda. If done properly, the concept can rock, but I fear that it will be too much of a PITA for developers who would rather just half ass impliment it's use.

So am I wrong?

I don't have a Wii but im pretty confident there are at least 4 good games: Zelda, Excite Truck, Rayman, Monkey Balls. I do however agree with you that mini games will eventually get boring unless you constantly have a crowd where your Wii is.

The lil mini game-type games are fun as hell, but I'll agree they will get old eventually. But games like Zelda and IDEAS like Red Steel (hopefully they will get it right next time) really give me hope for all the system has to offer.

Zelda's implementation is perfect. Its subtle and you aren't using the remote just to use the remote. It just works, and makes the experience better. That's what I hope to see.

Also, I think if some dev comes up with a really good system for an FPS on the Wii, this thing will have no problems in the future. I really have high hopes for Metroid in this regard.

There will always be shitty games no matter what system. The DS proves that an "alternate control system" is viable and can be implemented correctly not only by the big N themselves but by many 3rd parties. I would imagine for a little while a rental should proceed a suspect game purchase to be on the safe side until developers learn the system.
