Have an Emerson LCD TV, am trying to use as PC monitor, format not supported?

I hooked up the TV to the PC using the RGB connection, switched it to the "PC" channel, but it says, "Format not supported".

What do I need to do to make them compatible?

Also, nothing happens when I plug the Emerson TV to the PC using HDMI. So that's two different cables, neither working.

What to do?
