have a male beta fish..can i add a female with him?

hey ,
i have a beautiful blue male beta fish and he is now in a gallon tank(round) he loves his little rock statue home in there..lol better than the life he lived in a tuna sized can at walmart!
he even comes over to see us when we go near his bowl and moves along with our finger.
my question is..isnt he lonely? yea i know he has always been alone but..he is making foam..bubbles & i think he wants a mate.
ive heard u cannot a female with him unless its a huge 10 gallon tank or bigger.
well only let me know if u have did this in success or none success.
i dont care about what the internet says..i want personal exp.
i dont want his tail nibbled off either.

ps god created eve for adam so i know surely he would like a friend!
 
you can NOT have anything else with him in a bowl that size. Actually in my personal opinion and experience, HE shouldn't be in a bowl that size!

The foam/bubbles are called bubblenests, It means that he is happy and content.

If you put a female in with him in a tank that size, then he will fight for his territory. And that includes pestering the poor female, till most of the time she jumps ship. If you put a female in a tank that small she would for sure either jump out or die from stress or from the actual attacks from the male.

Under NO circumstances should you subject another fish to that. If you really need something try getting a snail. Otherwise, get a bigger tank before you put anything in with him.

a male and female betta should only be put together for a short period of time to spawn anyways, and very short amount of time at that...

You male will be just fine by himself. He isn't lonely. actually seems content if he is blowing bubble nests.
 
Well, I'm not really sure how their feelings and emotions are. Science hasn't gone that far.

Most if not all male Betta's will create a bubble nest. I think of it like, most of not all male dogs will hump objects.

You can certainly mate him if you want. However, you do need to remove the female shortly after.
