Ok, so I have a '91 Honda Accord 2.2 L LX, and it used to run fine. Then about 2 weeks ago, I tried to start it and it got to 1000 RPM, but then the RPM dropped and the engine cut out. I started it again, gave it gas for about 10 seconds, and it kept running. It was fine afterwards so I thought nothing of it. But about 2 days ago I started it up, drove for about 5 seconds, and the engine just completely cut out. No sputtering...nada, it just cut out and died. I tried to restart it but now it just cranks without turning over. You can hear that it wants to start because it's not just clicking, so I know it's not the battery; besides, the lights and everything else electrical works perfectly. I've been trying the process of elimination and so far I've put more gas in the tank (it was close to E), changed the sparkplugs, and took the battery to Autozone to make sure it had a full charge. But I'm not making any progress. I just bought this car about a month ago, and I know the previous owner was always letting it go down to E before refilling, so I'm wondering if its the fuel filter or perhaps the pump. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and obviously I know I could simply take it to a mechanic but I would need to pay to have it towed and I'm trying to see if it's a simple fix before I start throwing money out there. I'm pretty sure it's not the alternator because the engine has been running fine and the battery is fully charged. I've had a few people mention the starter, but again, it was starting fine and it started the day it died, which makes me think its a problem with the fuel. Thanks!
Thanks Brandon, but I can't even rev the engine because now it doesn't even turn over. I tried hitting the gas as it cranks but it does no good. Also, the oil is good and I have half a tank of gas.
