Has there ever been a civilization/culture who believed in atheism?

Any ancient civilizations who believed that death is indeed the end for everyone, and that there is no afterlife, reincarnation, next level, etc?
ah I see. I always thought that atheism was just belief of nothing. no spirits or afterlife or anything. thanks for clearing that up lol

Buddhism?

p.s. atheism says nothing about wether one can believe in reincarnation or afterlives, atheism purely regards wether someone believes in the existance of a god.

Possibly. Most of them just made up answers, based on gut feelings, however.

Lack of belief in deities. Buddhists are atheists and they believe in many spiritual concepts.

You don't have to believe that death is the end of everyone to be an atheist. Atheism just means that you do not believe in a God.

Do you really think the first humans had the cognitive capabilities of philosophical thought? It's impossible to say when religion originated, but there have certainly been atheist-by-default civilizations for the first 1.7+ million years of our existence (as hominids).

Well the Aboriginals are an example of an atheistic tribe.

However what you describe isn't atheism. They did believe in spirits, just not gods.
