...the lexicon? It was very out of favor from the '70s through the '90s, but seems to have made a comeback with people being more relaxed about its use. In general, the media still won't use the term. In casual banter, do most folks accept it, with someone that doesn't being considered uptight? Do you think "boy" can be demeaning for adult men but "girl" is more generally accepted, and that's OK?
 
I think "boy" and "girl" could both be thought of as demeaning. It really depends on the person, but I think in general, most people over 25 would prefer "man" and "woman".
 
It depends on the context. If a businessman says something like "I'll have my girl get in touch with your girl" that's kind of degrading. But if you want to serenade your 30-year old fiancee with "My Girl" on karaoke night, I bet she'd be thrilled.
