I haven't seen much about the Rugby League World Cup however I realise it gets more coverage in Queensland than NSW and Victoria. Has it been successful and have there been large followings?
I can see it as being a success and a failure. A success because of the smaller nations like Fiji and Ireland achieving so well but a failure because of the sheer dominance by Australia and the poor scheduling vt the organisers. In my opinion in order to generate a bit more interest Australia have to loose and even if they do it's either going to be NZ or England who win the tournament. Just my personal opinion.
It's been alright. A few upsets in the other pools, Australia being too dominant and good crowds.
The coverage from Channel 9 is a bit of fail, though.
The cup itself has been quite entertaining, Australia smash every team (that was obviously expected)
but there have been a few close upsets in other pools which is good to see.
And Channel 9 just need to sack themselves and hand over the coverage to someone else, they are just shocking, Barely show a live game
Some of the games have been good, particularly Ireland and Fiji game. But regardless of the outcome, the Aussies are so far in front of everyone else it is a shame. The standard from England and the Kiwis has not been good. Channel 9 hasn't helped either.
yep....time will tell for the minnow nations but their countries have sat up and taken notice. And the fact that its been televised to many other countries is a good thing...makes them take notice too. Samoa, Solomon islands and fiji to name a few are starting to focus more and more on RL. Crowds have been alright for a world cup thats hardly been advertised that much...ratings are pretty good to for the pr*cks that decided to delay coverage.
Pool C and B games have been a cracka and that fact we have Fiji in the semi's is pretty exciting. Theres rumours on leaguehq.com that australia may host the next one since its been sucessful for them in terms of revenue. Ticket sales and merchandise sales have gone pretty good. So far ticket sales i think have passed the 20 mil mark. The bulk of that money will go into developing minnow nations so that pretty cool.
Edit:
if know one cares about RL then why did the victorian government agree to stage origin, origin is RL isnt it???....they said that it'll boost their local economy and revenue from tourism. So before you go shooting of your mouth i'd get the facts right first a-hole. Since its one of the biggest sporting dates on the calender...bigger then crap AFL which rated higher then your GF...
