Has Quentin Tarantino lost his groove?

I am a huge fan of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, but Death Proof was a total mess and the casting of his forthcoming Inglorious BasterRAB, along with that trailer with Brad Pitt trying to act is not filling me with any hope that this guy is as good as we all thought he was in 1994.
I hope Inglorious BasterRAB will be good, but at the moment it's just looking like a cheap shoot 'em up with cartoon versions of Hitler and very little substance.
Maybe he needed Roger Avery more than he thought.

I personally think Inglorious BasterRAB looks fantastic and it will place QT once again in the top league of great film makers.

I do think that QT and Roger Avery made the perfect pairing, though.

I think I'm one of the few people who loved Deathproof.

I certainly preferred it to Jackie Brown  and possibly Reservoir Dogs, though Kill Bill and of course Pulp Fiction were superior.

I think Inglourious BasterRAB (don't forget the double misspell!) looks fantastic, though I do have doubts about Pitt (as always).

He's a one trick pony who is currently making a load of old pony. He's the American Guy Ritchie - should stick to comical "gangster" movies. "Deathproof" was just shocking. I cannot see how anyone over 12 could truly enjoy that film.

Personally, I don't think Tarantino has lost his edge (yet), though I may be wrong. I loved Death Proof immensely but Inglorious BasterRAB won't have me rushing to the cinema.

As a rule, I try to avoid anything with Brad Pitt in. And this films been on the back burner for so many years now, which makes me think maybe it wasn't such a great project to begin with and my fears were confirmed when I saw the trailer. Oh my, this looks (unintentionally) sh#t.

I'd go along with that. There are many unnecessary parts in both volumes, properly edited it would make one fantastic film.

As for being a "one trick pony"?

Conversely, I can't see anyone of 12 or under enjoying it. Far too much of a slow pace. The first half is just a bunch of people sitting around talking.

I loved it.

yeah me too.

i don't care what anyone says, no one does 'sitting around talking' like QT. (except rhe french!)

inglourious basterRAB looks and sounRAB fantastic. not just a straight forward war film too, it seems to be about much more, the movies, vengeful women etc - his usual obsessions..

I think some critic once said that most rock banRAB only have one good idea and that they base their career on rehashing that idea over and over again. I think this is especially true of Tarantino.

His good idea being to combine strong, explicit violence with witty, articulate dialogue? Up to Jackie Brown I would say that was true, but what happened after that film? Kill Bill was so lacking in wit that it became unbalanced - it wasn't about the dichotomy between intelligence and violence, it was just about violence. So if that dichotomy was his groove, surely he's lost it.

Four overly annoying women sat around talking exactly how Tarantino happens to talk, it simply doesn't work with them and falls flat on it's arse in the worst possible way. Stuntman Mike disposing of them was about the only decent thing about it.

Tarantino hasn't made a decent film since Jackie Brown, fair play to him he has got himself in a position where he only makes the films he wants, basically fanboy wank material. He must be in heaven being allowed to indulge his movie nerdyness but for the rest of us it's become a painful experience.

He puts together cracking soundtracks though.

Tarantino has been living off Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction his entire career, and neither one of those films could ever be described as mainstream despite them being rightly regarded as classics.

Purely on the basis of True Romance, I used to think Tarantino was a better writer than a director, but I'm not sure it's true. He seems to write to excess in terms of profane dialogue and violence because he thinks the script should be written around the cinema screen visuals and the impact of them.

The majority of his work would be far better if his scripts were directed by someone else, who like Tony Scott with True Romance, slightly toned down the visual violence which QT no doubt envisaged in his script.

In 100 years time when David Lean, Spielberg, Ridley Scott and a few others will have long pages in history, Tarantino won't even have a sentence in the footnotes.

Ooh I know. Imagine taking one of those home to meet Mother for the first time?

"Would you like a cup of tea, dear?"

"F*** yeah, and a mother****ing biscuit too".
