with it's obsession with status, violence, bling 'respect' expensive trainers and women's bottoms turned people of colour into a laughing stock.

and can anything be done about it?

Actually, most of White suburbia America has a fascination with it too. They seem to think they're gangsters, hustlers just trying to survive. Walk through most high schools or colleges. You'll find a large contingent, and they're not from Bed-Stuy, that gives off the impression they're only in college to duck The Man, that they're really oppressed.
 
I know how annoying it is! Just because alot of rappers are black means nothing! But I'd say a way to help stop it is to be yourself. You are gentle and hate violence, stay that way and tell people about it. They might join you. Think about Martin Luther King. If it weren't for him black and whites might still be spilt up it may of been worse. Remember stay you. If you don't like this problem, just be yourself and if others try too people may notice and realise that bling, violence and all that is just stereotype. But many white people have started doing this trend too.
 
Obviously you have not met my accountant who is black as your hat and a qualified number cruncher.
 
Id like to think, while many pigeon hole themselves, and make for a scary drive in our neighborhood (living far too close to Inglewood or south central for comfort) that there are also as many african american people that really want to educate themselves and be more for our society. Its sad, that while the black community may have a hard time fighting the stereo types lets just be honest there are A lot of reasons true as can be that the stereo types are there. Any given day you can drive down the street and they are drugs, guns and sex being sold, but our country saw enough good to elect a black president. Whites have crazy rednecks and trailer trash, Latin culture has gang members, and cowboys, blacks have ghetto rap, and cribs.... id like to think that things are measured enough on individual merit that you can persevere past stereo type. so get your welfare apple bottom butt up off your black leather sofa And get a job and an education, and tell your sister to put the crack pipe down...
