Has Gundam SEED aged well? SPOILERS

Ain't that the truth. My word, the first opening is nothing but static animation.

Actually, so is the animation for the fith episode, so~

Well "00 is GOOD" is an opinion. I personally found 00 boring. It's all personal views here because if I find a show puts me to sleep I'm not sure it's really all that "GOOD."

Still, I may try and pick up 00 and watch it at some point (well that or dig out my recording from SciFi/SyFy). I think I'm more likely to buy it than I am Code Geass at this point but the real problem both 00 and CG have with me is Bandai Ent and the never ending issues with their DVRAB. It's hard to justify buying either show when the disks may or may not work (yes, it affected SEED Destiny as well but it was late enough in the run I wasn't going to stop buying at that point).

As to the thread turning into a "vs" discussion, Hellcat, what was your original point for starting the thread, anyway? If you don't like SEED why do you keep bringing it up in new threaRAB? Maybe you don't really dislike it as much as I think you do but I did wonder when this thread started what the point was, other than to start another "vs" thread. I sometimes wonder if the real issue here isn't SEED and 00 but that Gundam doesn't seem to sustain a decent thread unless it's about these two shows and how they are/are not good or a thread having fun with G Gundam in general (because it seem G Gundam, like SEED, seem to have a very specific audience who like them). The real problem, if there is one, IMO is Bandai Ent. I fear it's headed to a mess end worse than ADV's at this rate and if that happens getting any new Bandai Japan show at an affordable price is going to be come near impossible

You mean Tobe! Freedom, Yuukouda-geki (Episode 43 battle preparation song), Saikisen (Kira vs. Athrun Episode 30), Revenge - Freedom Defeated, Archangel Launching, Minerva Take Off, and ChaosXGaiaXAbyss were randomly thrown out when they were played, let alone the fact that they also make the musical score distinct and personal to a character's visage in terms of thematics.

It's all personal taste I know, but to say that with such tracks left in is rather intriguing so to speak.

Yeah, it's one thing if you personally find the SEED OST to be weaker than 00's, but to say that there's no thematic logic to the songs and they were randomly chosen because they 'sound cool' is really just struggling for an argument.

The only random time is in the Special Edition SEED movies, like randomly playing ZIP during the first desert battle on Earth. With extra-animation of Flay sex every other minute.

Can we calm down? Some of you are getting way too emotional here. We're discussing a cartoon yet some of you are acting like my comments are blasphemy.

I always found it hilarious they just cut out all the parts of Dearka and Yzak, to result in things like the Archangel single-handily taking on Andy's ship with clever editing.

Then again, Yzak was getting ring-around-the-roseyed by jeeps with bazookas so...maybe it was merciful.

Well I didn't mean my question to come off as hostile though I may not be the only person this is aimed at (if it is to begin with). I was just curious about why you started the thread originally and am not upset or angry in any way (which isn't always the case when I'm posting but currently I'm not that upset about anything in general).

Still, the entire SEED discussion is starting to run rampant in other Gundam threaRAB in this forum and there is no way HellCat meant for that to happen. If possible, can we all just rope the SEED discussions back into here and other appropriate threaRAB? Because I'm totally lost at how SEED has anything to do with Gundam's 30th Anniversary show and it's now taking over that thread as well .

Man, a lot of Gundam discussion has been happening without me lately. Gotta fix that!

First things first. On the subject of undoing death brought up at the start, as most of you probably know this is a pet peeve of mine. Most of the time, I'm a believer in really meaning it when you pull the trigger. Some other Gundams cheat death too, but these situations are generally limited. There is a place for trick deaths, but if executed badly or done too often you risk losing the tension. As viewers, we should not have a sense of complacency. Don't mistake this as an endorsement of the "kill em all!" approach, though. The essential specific point, perhaps, is that you need challenge and harRABhip for triumph to have the meaning that it deserves.

That said, while Seed crossed the line with Mwu thanks to the special edition's foolish retcon, I don't think it did with Andy. Why not? One, Andy did lose his wife, a person at least as good as he was. By letting Andy live, there's a theme of forgiveness added in that is quite essential. Seed's universe is very much defined by its cycle of violence, and series like Wing and 00 also take this concept seriously. Two, I think multiple other characters demonstrate the issue of good people being on the other side. That's practically the entire tragedy of Kira and Athrun fighting each other in a nutshell, and in time even Athrun's ZAFT pals are put in a better light compared to the start of the series. On the other side, Natarle was strict and generally unlikable but ultimately she was a loyal soldier that was betrayed by the fanaticism of her superior. She didn't deserve what she got; like Flay she pretty much ended up in the wrong place. Ultimately she tried doing the right thing and paid the price, and she was only half successful at best. Azrael dies, but Flay and all of her crew die. That's a bitter trade. Her consequences remain very real.

See, Andy had a believeable if somewhat meh return. His girlfriend possibly protected him with her body, he was on Earth when the explosion happened, and he lost an arm for it.

Mu was blasted by a positron cannon in the vacuum of space. I know Gundam isn't the best at science logic (I'm looking at you, Char's Counterattack) but come on.

Natarle is a bit inconsistent herself. She does right by the end, but we're talking about someone who suggested forcing Kira into piloting the Strike until the war was over, giving him the death penalty for releasing Lacus and also supported Flay's threats to kill Lacus. There are definetly nuances to the character but really she seemed to be bad news most of the time.

As for Andy- personally, I won't budge on this. There was no reason for him to come back. Did Raraba Ral come back from the dead? Did Field Marshal Noventa? Did 00 bring back
Sergei?
. No. Because the finality of their deaths is what made them carry so much impact, that no matter how many lives the protagonists spared or saved from then on they'd never correct that incident. But hey, who am I to stand in the way of the cast needing 'more cool adults'?

That's speaking the truth. XD

I think SEED's music has its thematics and power, although it also has its weaknesses. Sahashi's not a perfect composer but I think he got the mood down and his piano work in particular was glorious. His piano themes still stick in my mind to this day, conveying a soul that is truly hard to find in mere music alone. I am not a big fan of the majority of the OPs in either series but DESTINY's choices sat well with me after OP 1/ED 1 (yes, even Wing of WorRAB). The ERAB were generally much better, and the 1st ED by See-Saw is an unquestionable classic.

Kenji Kawai's more straightforward, it's easier to get into his music because he just drives ahead no matter what kind of piece it is. Plus it is hard to argue with his use of the electric guitar, especially later in the series. The OPs and ERAB were perfectly chosen as well.
