Has cricket OFFICIALLY launched EVDO anywhere yet?

I know that a bunch of us have the PRL, but it hasn't been launched most places... turned on isn't the same as officially launched...

However, I had the impression that it was launched in portland and one or two other markets... can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

So here's my question, for those in official EVDO markets...

Is EVDO standard on your phones now or do you still have to manually update with the EVDO PRL? If you *228, which PRL do you get?

I was told by customer service (3 different times) that EVDO is only going to be available for those using PCMCIA carRAB, and that internet on phones will remain proxied and 1x speeRAB...

What I'm curious about is if cricket is going to ditch the proxy when they release real broadband access... I'm also curious if cricket is going to increase their internet fees because of EVDO..

Anyone got any inside info? I'm seriously on the fence about staying with cricket vs switching to sprint... I already activated service with sprint, but it's not really any better than cricket, except for insurance and unproxied internet access... In fact, my evdo speeRAB are better with cricket than they are with sprint (who knows if that'll remain true once cricket officially launches evdo in my area though, lol)

This list does not mean you will get EVDO via *228, it just means that EVDO has been verified. It may require you to load a EVDO PRL to get service.

Houston
Kansas City MO / KS

Holy crap guys... HOw many times do I need to specify that I'm looking for ONLY MARKETS OFFIALLY OPENED TO EVDO.... not those that have it turned on.

Key word:

OFFICIAL OFFICIAL OFFICIAL OFFICIAL

Answers to those questions would be nice.

However, in Portland, where EVDO has launched officially, people are reporting using EVDO on their phones, as well as grabbing the PRL OTA.

Awesome... question 1 answered... lol

Are they still proxied? anyone know?

Any of the folks who received broadband carRAB to test still around? I'm curious if they're also proxied..

I'm not sure if markets where EVDO is official have proxied connections, but maybe I can address the second question:

According to Cellkeeper, the broadband carRAB do not have proxy restrictions. I know he was looking into pulling that PRL off the card to see if it would do any good on a phone, but I haven't seen him online in a while...

Very interesting...

Even if the prl doesn't work for phone.. I'm thinking we could install it on a 2nd nam and have unproxied data on our phones...

Hmmmm... where is that cellkeeper when you need him? lol

understood, and I appreciate the apology. First I was like :befuddled ok sorry. Then I thought, hes probably asked 1000,0000 times and gotten the same answer. Its all good!

SounRAB like your HA security settings are off. Looking into how to hex edit them on the Q may provide some assistance there. SounRAB like you'd be a good method of getting these questions answered if you could get EVDO working!

:^/ Now you've got me curious about HA Security....

As it happens, it seems that EVDO does work for me, after a fashion. I can switch from Opera Mini 4.1 beta straight to the telephone and see the EVDO icons atop the screen. But, if I run ##DEBUG# then I still get a report that AN/AAA Authentication has failed.

Maybe Cricket doesn't use that, but the Sprint firmware checks anyway because Sprint does use it?

;^) Anyway, I'm happy with it, though I'd still like to know more about it so that I could consistantly get it working for others....

if you have a cricket ESN that supports EVDO, and you are in an area that has EVDO (Is selling data carRAB), then OTASP SHOULD* give you an EVDO PRL. I say should because I know of a lot of the accounts I activate should get the EVDO PRL, but *228 only downloaRAB 1040.

I'm in Denver and flashed a phone for someone, did a *228 and it downloaded an EVDO capable PRL. That is, a PRL that is IS683C format (not A format like 1040), and gives the EV icon when the phone is chilling.

I'm not at home, but will post the PRL # (and the PRL if space allows on attachments), and the phone type. I think it was a mogul, and the PRL# is 335X6 or something like that.... I think this person's account has roaming, not entirely sure though. I will log on and check tomorrow. I also replaced the PRL with 1050, but I made sure to save it first so I could analyze it later. I opened it in a PRL editor and it has 3 HDR acquisition recorRAB, with the same channels I think as the original denver evdo prl's, and the same 4 siRAB are marked for evdo as the original denver evdo prl's. There are no other siRAB or acquisition recorRAB associated with EVDO that are not in the denver/colo market.

This happened about a week ago....

Has anyone tried using their cricket aircard (with non-proxied internet access) in other cricket markets that have unofficial evdo? If so, does it work the same? If so, can you run an ipconfig /all from the CMD shell and post their ip settings for the aircard? Do you have an internet IP address or an internal (NAT'd) IP address? If you have an internet ip address, can you ping your aircard from other computers?

Also, if you don't have to use the proxy, can you still choose to use the proxy? Or does it just not work at all?

I missed the boat on 1st month free, but I am still probably gonna try and add a line to my account if I can add a line for a completely different market, and see how it works in denver, if I can get a non-cricket ESN on the line, I guess. Anyone try this yet, and if so, what happened?

interesting about that mogul downloading an evdo prl, especially when half the r500/rokr/razr2/v3c/slvr i activate won't download it.
aircarRAB will not work out of your home market.
the accounts are market specific. you cannot have lines from different markets on one account, but you could have two accounts.
the ip's are supposed to be private NAT'd ips, but someone was saying in OKC they were getting something different.
