Has Countdown been nothing since Richard Whiteley died?

I only started watching Countdown again when Des Lynam took over and I'm still a fan although many other fans feel that Richard Whiteley was Countdown and that it would never be the same.

Richard Whiteley made the show but Countdown is still good with old Des O'Connor,Des Lynam's heart wasn't really in it i thought.

I wasn't much of a countdown fan, but I would get into it for a couple of weeks at a time, then leave it for ages.

Since RW passed away I may have watched about an hours worth of the show. IMO he has proved irreplaceable :(

I still watch. It was quite bad when Lynam was doing it (it was quite obvious he didn't want to be there, imo), but it's picked up again with Mr O'Connor.

I'd have to add that the current champion is the most miserable player I've ever seen :D

It'll be interesting to see what happens when Carol V's contract comes up for renewal.

In Spring 2004 it was widely reported that Carol and Richard had signed for "at least five more years" of Countdown, taking the show though to 2009. As we know, Richard died a year later but unless things have changed since, it could be that Carol's Countdown contract comes up for renewal next year.

I wasnt a HUGE Countdown fan, I did watch in the RW days and occassionlly when Lynam took over, the show isnt quite the same without Richard's awful jokes etc!!

I too was a keen fan when Twice Nightly was alive. Since then, Carol V has virtually taken over and spoils the show completely with her guffaws and "see me" presence.

I've stopped watching, even though I miss Suzie Dent!

I think Des O is a better presenter than 'Ole Misery Guts Lynam, who really looked as if he couldn't be bothered towarRAB the end of his stint.

As for Carol V and that foghorn laugh, I can't see her quitting anytime soon.

I don't like it as much now Richard has died.

I didn't think they needed a main presenter and still think they'd be better off without one. It could be the Carol and Susie show. The pair of them could do everything that is needed.

It's be the same show without trying to replace the irreplaceable.

It was 'nothing' when he was alive.

A safe, comfortable and dull programme that filled a late afternoon slot in a lazy, undermanding way.

Never got this 'how wonderful' Richard Whiteley was - which only started after he died.

He hosted a programme which many could do, wore awful ties and told worse jokes.

Tv for the bored IMO.
