Has anyone seen The Grudge yet?

It is absolute crap, as is the original. The ring is exponentially better in every single way and the story is very very poor. I want the 2 hours of my life back.

I watched the grudge yesterday night. I saw the Japanese version a couple of weeks ago and to be honest it was a bit pants. Mainly due to the fact that the story kept going backwarRAB and forwarRAB in time without telling you and i couldn't tell who was who. I went to see the American version in the hope that it would clear up all the confusing parts and make the plotline a little clearer...and it did (emphasis on 'a little'). I came to the conclusion that (wait for it..) the girl and cat were murdered by her husaband who went crazy for some reason. I didn't see the boy get murdered so maybe he got locked in a cupbord or something instead. That would explain why Sarah MG found him there. But then..why was the cat in there too and what was that American bloke doing at the end when he was snooping round and told the boy his mother wouldn't be back for a while. Ahhh i don't even know why he was so important anyway. No..it didnt work.Im still confused as hell.

I watched the grudge last week but even Sara Michelle Geller was struggling to keep awake (And it wasn't as though the cinema seat was that comfy).

Overall my opinion of the film was that the story was week and predictable they had to 'mix it up' in the editing room to make it remotely interesting.

According to some readers reviews on IMDB, then the Japanese original version 'Ju-On: The Grudge' is scarier.

Haven't seen any of them yet, but if the Japanese 'Ringu' and the American 'The Ring' is an example of comparison, then I'd go with the Japanese version over the American one. The Ring was absolute rubbish compared To Ringu, IMO. The American version with all their money thrown at it and the OTT technical wizardry, completely lost the plot altogether and the result was losing the sinister and very scary atmosphere of the original movie.

I'd disagree there. I like Ring, but I think The Ring is also very good. I just love the blue colour wash which is present throughout. One colour can occaisonally be more effective than darkness. :)

Like I said before, I thought The Ring had its merits - chiefly Naomi Watts - an actress who had a great range (cf Mulholland Drive). While being a Gellar fan...ok a Buffy fan..., The Grudge left me cold in all the wrong ways. Japanese horror by numbers. No orignilality, even if it was directed by the original director. Sadly ( and maybe an indictment of current movie marketing) the movie's website was better (creepier) than the actual..err movie.

I've seen The Grudge, and all I can say is that if you are planning to see it, then get ready to be really, really scared. It's probably the scariest film since The Blair Witch Project was released. It's one of those horror films when you know that something scary is about to happen, but you just don't know what or the EXACT moment when it does happen. Also, it doesn't show gore in an attempt to be scary like most horror films nowadays. Instead, it's psychological, which proves to work much better.

When I saw it, I jumped on many occasions, and one of my uni frienRAB who I saw the film with was very scared. She had to cover her face with her hanRAB during the frightening parts.

It is a VERY scary film, and one well worth seeing.

ABC, how could be scared of this film? Its no psychological thirller... its just random 'scares' which never forumalate to create a plot!

Heh, when I saw the Ring I though she was a medicore 'blonde' acctress, as I'd never seen any of her previous work- but now I know, she rocks!

If the story had been stronger, I bet the 'scares' may have evn made me twitch instead of cringe.

My first post had to be in this thread.
The 4 original Juon movies are pretty bad deliberate rip off's of the japanese ring - the young boy, the eye thing and the long haired scary women. The remake even uses the same type of image as original promo pictures from ring in japan as part of there advertising.
Juon 1+2 the tv movies where alright, juon-the grudge is pretty much the same as the remake, only less special effects. Juon the grudge 2 is actually vastly superior and better acted, and even I got creeped out a bit. It is well worth viewing

I went to see The Grudge yesterday and really enjoyed it which surprised me as I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about it. I didnt think it was as good as the Ring or Ringu as both of them I thought were great but Ringu was a far better film than the American remake but that always seems to happen. I havnt seen the Japanese original of the Grudge but I will definatly be renting it now!
