Has anyone renewed recently

Hello,

Our family share plan contract ends on July 25, and we want to renew for another 2 years and get new phones. Now, I have gone into My Account and gone to the upgrade screen, and to the page to select the lines to upgrade. It says that the next page will show you all eligible discounts. So on the next page, we see all the prices. However there are some technical problems with the web page, so I end up having to call them to renew.

After spending about 30 minutes on the phone with a very nice operator who was trying everything she could think of to get me the online pricing, she transfered me to he supervisor, who told me "the only way to get any discount on a phone is to be a new customer or use a new every two discount." Now we have a $50 NE2 discount that I was going to use to get a new phone. However I don't want to pay full price for the other 3 lines, especially when the web site says that "You are eligible to upgrade your phone at a discounted price" and then lists the price on one of the particular phones as "FREE."

So I'm wondering if anyone else has upgraded/renewed multiple lines of service recently and if so what price level they ended up paying at.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi I just renewed 2 numbers on our Family plan and I upgraded to the Moto w755(which by the way is an awsome phone). I received them for the price that new customers would receive them. I also did mine through My Account. I know I have had problems in the past with my account and I called verizon online sales and they took my order on the phone. The only reason that I can see why you can not upgrade your other phones is your contract is up on July 25 so your main line I believe you can upgrade early but the others you have to wait till July 25.

Ok, so we ended up renewing over this weekend. Apparently the supervisor was full of it, and renewing the contract is the same as 'signing a new contract,' so we got the promotional rates. So, we ended up getting 2 Motorola W385s, a samsung juke, and an LG Voyager for $149.99. All in all not a bad deal.

We just upgraded using the NE2 plan. However, our plan wasn't actually up until August. My wife got a decent discount on the Env2 and I paid $149 for my Env2, but with a $50 rebate, so only $99. However, I did have to pay a $20 Early Upgrade fee on my phone.

Free phones are always crappy.

i wish people would actually fork out a couple bucks here and there for a decent phone that you wouldn't have to warranty 8 or 9 times. Pay a few bucks up front and save yourself and all the reps you'll call the time and effort

In my experience, there is nothing wrong with the free phones for someone who doesn't need all the features of a non-free phone, like kids or older folks. There's no reason to spend $100 on a phone for your 12 year old. Now, personally, I my self would never get a free phone, simply because I enjoy the enhanced features of the more advanced models, which is why I got the Voyager.

Also along the same lines, we've had cell phone service through Cingular, AT&T, and Verizon, and with each we have always gotten at least one free phone, and have never had any matinenance or performance problems with then. In fact, I would venture to say that the more expensive phones we got with AT&T were worse / more problematic than the free one we got.

We are upgrading thru NE2 for 1 line & adding 2 more lines.

We were told if we do it with the rep via 800# then we must pay the full prices & physicallyy submit a rebate form whereas if we do it on-line the rebate is automatic without paperwork.

Does this sound correct?

Problem with doing it on-line is that original line would go from America's CHoice to National Plan

I'm not sure about the 800 number part. When we were first trying to renew, the web site was having some technical issues, so I tried calling the 800 number. The operator told me that I could get the discount, but she would have to figure it out. After much fiddling with their software, she couldn't figure it out and forwarded me to a manager, who told me that 'you can't get any discounts by renewing over the phone beyond the base NE2 offer.' (one reduced price phone) I don't know if that was the truth or he just wanted to get rid of me because it was kind of late.

Yes, we had to change our plan type too. Its no big deal, you can do it online in MyAccount, and its free. Basically the Choice plans don't exist anymore. The Nationwide Share plans are pretty much the same. I guess for certain phones they will let you stay at America's Choice. But for some of the advanced phone, like the Voayger, they require that you upgrade to the Nationwide plan.

Overall I think online is the way to go. You get the lower price upfront, and you get (at least we did) some discounts on accessories (not the greatest, but about the same as you'd expect to pay at the BestBuy rather than the normal Verizon prices). I think they usually waive the activation fee online too. So I'd say just skip the hassle and renew online.
