Has anyone noticed a difference between brands of paint?

Last summer I painted my living room using behr premium eggshell. I did the color match system at Home Depot to match the Ralph Lauren cottonwood color swatch. I thought the walls looked just okay. Then I needed more to paint the adjoining hall, which has a little bit less light, but the same trim and everything. The Ralph Lauren eggshell happened to be on sale so that's what I got. The color in the hall ended up looking so awesome that I decided to paint my bathroom and basement with the Ralph Lauren kind. Eventually I'm going to get more and give my living room a coat of the Ralph Lauren kind.

I also got Ralph Lauren white semi-gloss for my woodwork and for some reason I hated it. It really didn't go on right and I wasn't crazy about the color. I liked Olympia white semi-gloss better.

I always thought that paint was paint and that the color was what mattered, but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone has noticed that some paints work better than others or had any opinions about paint. I have a lot of painting to do and wanted opinions and advice. Thanks!

I use sears easy living inside. If you keep the number off the can, you can go back five years later and get a perfect match and you can't tell a patch job. And it is washable and dries quickly and doesn't drip or fly off the roller.
