I am interested in seeing this movie and it was on TV the other night (apparently) but I missed it! So may have to get the DVD or something.

I usually take the guess that anything with Di Caprio in is a success for one reason or another so is it a good movie?

Part of me wanted to see the film purely for the part of Gwen Stefani's role as Jean Harlow.

One worth seeing? :)

It's not Scorcese's best movie but it's an interesting look into the early life of Howard Hughes before he became a recluse. DeCaprio is very good as Hughes and picked up an Oscar nomination.

Cate Blanchett won an Oscar for her performance as Katherine Hepburn which made her the first person to win an Oscar for playing a person who won an Oscar.

A little warning though - don't worry about the strange colour early in the film. Scorcese copied the style of colour from the Hollywood films of that time and this changes as the movie progresses

I thought it was great. I love films like that about real interesting people, like A Beautiful Mind which is one of my favourites.

Gwen is barely in it really.

I love LDC, i think he is a cracking actor and love films as i said above about real life people and about mental health type things like that, having problems myself i find it interesting.

I guess it's not everyones cup of tea but really worth a watch in my opinion.

I thought Dicaprio was out of his depth in this film, he didnt convice me, that basically took the enjoyment out of the film really, it would have been better with someone else. but i didnt like much of his stuff before The Departed.

Maybe the boyish thing made it hard for him to carry those bigger roles off IMO. I think he is much better and able to do that stuff these days though. I think he was just too young for some of the roles he had earlier in his career. there are only a handful of films i thought he was good in when he was younger. Now i pretty much think any film he is in is great.

Thanks for the replies :)

Shame that Gwen isn't in it much as I partly wanted to see it for the Jean Harlow scenes. However, that aside it does look a good movie :)

I think she only has a couple of lines in it - a very brief appearance. I watched it again last night and really enjoyed it, some very good performances and, I love seeing the old aircraft lovingly recreated.

I still need to see this film!

Gave it a bump as an actor was talking about hollywood actress Ava Gardner earlier and it reminded me. The girl who plays her looks so alike (i think).

I still don't have a full idea on what the film is really about but it looks really interesting.

Exactly what I think of him in films. There are certain roles he's just not suited to, not because of acting ability but just because of looks.
